If a woman becomes president, what do they call her husband? The first gentleman?

Yes first gentleman is proper, in the case of Hillary it could be former president Clinton, or if she appoints him to a cabinet post it could be sec. of state Clinton or another post perhaps ambassador Clinton. I personally hope that there is a place in government for him, he would be a great Sec. of State. People around the world respect him.

We have that situation over here in Germany with Angela Merkel being first female Chancellor. See, we don't even have a word for that :o). Her husband is referred to as Herr Merkel, Mr. Merkel. Probably the female President's hubby will be called Mr. Clinton also. In that case maybe President Hillary Clinton with her husband former Preisdent Clinton. Successful clan, huh?

I don't think that he will be called anything other than by his name, Mr. .... When introduced in public, it will be "President Jane and Mr John Doe". I really don't think he will ever be referred to as the first gentleman.
