Seven Original Story Ideas?

I remember hearing that there were 7 original story ideas (Shakespear may have written about all of them) like boy & girl fall in love are seperated and then reunited. Any one know what these are or where I can find them?

Update:

I don't want any smart mouth remarks please. This is a serious question.

Christopher Booker wrote a book entitled "The Seven Basic Plots." As he labels them they are:

    1. Overcoming the Monster

    2. Rags to Riches

    3. The Quest

    4. Voyage and Return

    5. Comedy

    6. Tragedy

    7. Rebirth

The book is pretty hefty though, but really great in explaining genres and the themes mentioned above, and drawing connections between older works and more modern ones.

However, many different people have tried to expand on that idea, and rephrase their ideas of the seven original plots. This website here is a great resource of the different types of conclusions people have drawn: http://www.emmadavies.net/content/blog/nice/seven-...

    For example:

    [wo]man vs. nature

    [wo]man vs. man

    [wo]man vs. the environment

    [wo]man vs. machines/technology

    [wo]man vs. the supernatural

    [wo]man vs. self

    [wo]man vs. god/religion

is another list of the different types of plot that people see. It's really a matter of opinion, and you can pick the one that you think is more accurate. In class I remember learning more about the second list here, but they both fit and seem pretty accurate.

    Hope this helps!
