My Honda manual says to change oil every 10K miles yet dealer wants to do it 3K because of climate.Who's rite?

10K is too long. Oil changes are pretty cheap (unless you go to a dealer). If you're running synthetic and do a decent amount of driving then you should take it in around the 5 - 6K mark.... if you're running regular oil, then it's best to go in around the 3K mark. You could drive beyond these points, but like I said earlier, oil changes are cheap, so why risk it? Better safe than sorry.

I also drive a Honda and I take my car to the dealer because of service and reliability, they know the car best because they are used to selling it and servicing it. I think the mileage between oil changes is a combination of weather and driving style.

An agressive driver and bad weather will put more strain on the engine, so it is assumed that the oil gets dirtier.

I would also consider tire rotation and air filter in the mix.

I thend to change oil between 4-6K miles, depending on how I feel the weather and my driving has been.

Thats hondas idea.... essentially they make a good engine (this is comming from a chevy guy) and they want you to keep buying new cars...I'd go no more then 5,000 miles.... also hondas filters are made by fram...why? they sell, and they get em cheap. Fram filters are the lowest quality filter you can use.... I'm not a fan of dealers.... heard some stories of honda dealers putting the oil treatment "krex" which is graphite... this will gunk the engine up and wear it out faster actually. I see no problem using a synthetic out to 10,000 miles...

Usually, there are TWO maintenance schedules. One for normal use and one for harder use. On MY car it's 5k or 7.5K. I use the 7.5K as I drive 90% on the freeway at 60mph. Dealers will ALWAYS want you to change more often to get more $$$.

Once I received a service bill at a dealer with some extra services that I didn't ask for. When I questioned it, they said "OH, we reccomend these be done" I said you should have "reccomended" it BEFORE starting work. I'm not paying for anything I did not ask for!!! (They changed the bill)

10k wow that's allot you have to do it every 3k or 5k and that's all depend on you driving habit I do oil change every 5k and you don't have to go to the dealer if you don't have warranty.but if you have the warranty with them it's better to do it with them to be on the safe side.

why t.f. do you want to take your car to a dealer for an oil change? you can have it done at most any oil change place for less than 20 bucks.

I WORK AT A HONDA DEALER AND EVEN WE THINK THE 10K INTERVAL IS TOO LONG. I'D GO WITH EVERY 5K.

The dealer want your money. Change it every 15k even youll be fine..

remember, the more you take care of your engine now, the longer it will last.

Do it every 6963 miles.
