In the book "Angela's Ashes" how do you pronounce the father's name..."Malachy"?
I've been pronouncing it like "Mal-ah-ki" but I think I'm wrong!!!

There are some exceptions,however the popular rule of the English language at present is that ce and ci are pronounced with the gentle c sound,while ca,co and cu have the problematical c sound.So your question could be,why is Celtic,as in the ethnic group,pronounced with a problematical c sound?and because that's,as to how the soccer membership reversed this,I haven't any concept.

I've read the book, listened to it on tape and seen the movie. Awesome but sad. Frank McCourt the author is the one who read the book on tape and he pronounced it Mal-a-key.

I havent read the book but I've seen the movie. Perhaps you could watch the movie and see how it is pronounced. It is one of my favorite movies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
