Berlin has some great museums. Be sure to see the Checkpoint Charlie museum. That was cool.

    The food is great.

Carry the address of your hotel or hostel with you. There are some great cheap hostels in Berlin. If you get lost, you can get a cab or help with the bus system.

Know "Ich habe mich verirrt." "I am lost."

And "Wo is die WC (vay-say)" "Where is the bathroom?"

If you're traveling in the country, they have great train pass deals.

I went to Berlin last year for the first time. It was also my first time in the country. I could barely speak any German, and didn't need to the entire time I was there, (except for one time in the hotel when I had to say my room number because the guy that was there before that spoke english was on break). My best advice: grab a map and stroll around the city. You'll be surprised at the things you'll find. Just take it all in. Explore. There are some lovely internet cafes if you'd ever want to e-mail home or something. But basically, just explore the city, and be sure that you always have a map with you and your hotel card. If you get lost you can always find a taxi cab and show them your hotel card and they'll just drive you right back to your hotel. It is a beautiful city. I hope you enjoy your stay. I wish I was still over there.

Lots of fun. I went there a few years ago. We did the walking tour in 2 days. Depending what you are interested in...there is an entire street lined with cocktail bars, look up when the city is having events- if you like techno you can not miss love parade, there is also a hemp parade. Don't miss seeing part of the wall that is still standing- across the street from a gas station. Look into staying at a bed and breakfast type place- you can take the subway into the city and the places are cheap ($20 per night)

I suggest you do your research through travelocity.com and also do a web search on the name "Berlin, Germany" and see what comes up. I was there in the late 1970s when the politics were much different and its really a beautiful city. Have a great trip!

If you stay at the Odyssey hostel they give you a map of the city with all the historical stuff on it and there is a bus that drops you off right in front of it. I walked everywhere and in 2 days saw almost everything. Lot of good stuff to see. Molecule man is lame but everyone told me it was a cool thing to see, It is a big modern art sculpture on the river
