serious issue with my toddler ..he is fascinated by his feces...how do I break him of this?
Please help! My 3 year old has a disgusting habit. He will not keep his pants on ( we are potty training) and he will hide from me and poop then play with it ( smear it on things, etc) How do I get him to stop this. Its disgusting and unsanitary and frankly i'm tired of cleaning up poop! Also, I might mention that he has learning disabilities so most things take longer for him to grasp than other kids his age. Please help..I am at my wits end with this.

It might help to give him similar textures to play with: playdough, clay, salt dough. Do you think you could get him to help with the cleaning up? That also might make it a little less interesting.
I'm potty training my son, too, but we haven't had this issue yet (fingers crossed). I found a few links with some ideas on this problem as well.
Good luck!

I can completely understand your point of view! I had to rent a Rug Doctor twice in one month!
My 2 year old girl would not stop! It was like everyday for like 2 weeks! It was horrible! And not to mention she has a white bed frame!
At first we used to spank her. That didn't work so well. Plus it just stresses everyone out!
Then we had her help us clean it up. And it kinda taught her a little responsibility for her actions.
Finally when we got at wits end, we started washing her butt off with cold water(poor girl would scream bloody murder! I hated it). She stopped doing it after that.
Now every once in a while she does it and hides it. She cries when we discover what she did. So we make her put it back in her diaper(because she takes it off to play in her poop), and then walk her to the bathroom and flush it down the toilet and say bye.
It seems to be working for us. She hasn't played in it for like 2 weeks now and she's learning to potty train just from flushing it down the toilet!
DON'T WORRY! YOU'RE NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO'S KID PLAYS IN THEIR POOP!
Although it's not something you just blurt out during conversations huh?

My son is just the same and he is 3 and a half.. The amount of trains and cars i have thrown away because he pushes them through it!
But I got a tip off my health visitor... Pick up the poop with tissue and put it in his potty... show him and praise him saying well done poo-poo potty...I have been doing it for a week now and he is having less accidents on the carpet.. It's a slow working progress un-fortunately.. Anyway good luck!

It's perfectly normal at this stage, my kiddo had exactly the same bad habit, it lasted about 4 months and then it was over.
The best way is to make him understand the poop has to go into the toilet, exactly like you do. Tell him calmly that he wouldn't want you to poop on his toys either, and that the purpose of toilets was precisely to keep a healthy place!

Try aroma therapy, seriously put something that smells nice on his little hands and let him smell it. Kep trying they don't usually stop the first time. Try lotions that smel good and repeat it over and over. This worked for me when I worked with the mentally challenged for 3 years. When he smears the poop give him a time out, three minutes should work. Good Luck.
