The question was answered correctly already. The man in the phone booth is Clark Kent/Kel El/Superman and the rock is Kryptonite.

The attacker hammered the man's head with the rock while he held the phone booth door open.

Someone threw the rock at him through the open door of the phone booth.

He had a bad phone call and in anger thew the rock he had which bounced off of the window and hit him in the head ( a common occurance..)

I think The Mighty Chuck Norris killed him. Chuck Norris was the guy the victim was talking to on the phone. Chuck Norris was so pissed because the guy made fun of his beard, so Chuck Norris roundhouse kicked the phone and the kick's sound was transmitted into the phone and into the victim's ear causing his death because of the continuous echoing of roundhouse kicks in his ears...
