hey is Win 2K still gonna be supported? anyways boot up the computer, and then after it is done completing POST, press the function key F8 right before the Windows Me start-up screen appears. then press the number with safe mode by it. the computer will then boot up with the minimum amount of drivers that it needs to run, and minimal graphics. you should be able to run scan disk and other utilities that you need to run

Normally press 'DELETE" or "F8" when booting, to bring the bios screen on your computer. From that, simply choose boot selection; Safe mode, normal mode etc.

Do you know that windows 98, 98 2nd edition, and win ME isn't going to be supported any more?
I think it's start the computer up and while it is trying to start up, hit f8.

well i recommend either upgrading to windows 2000 or xp, or installing windows 98se. windows ME is a very bad OS, microsoft stopped supporting it long ago, but still provides support for 98se. in order to install 98se however you will have to format the hard drive. save all your data to some removable media, get a win98 ebd floppy. boot to floppy type fdisk. delete all partitions. create new partition restart and then format (at the prompt type format c: /u). then boot to win98 cd and install. probably have to get the drivers for all your hardware also.

you could also restart in dos mode and run chkdsk. use chkdsk /r to automatically repair errors.
