so mainworry said this in a response?
"Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
the question was about whether christians believed that non-christians will go to hell.
now, i find a different interpretation of this verse. i think jesus says by living LIKE me, you will find enlightenment. and when he says no one will come to the father by anyone but me, i think it means that jesus was judge you. i dont see anything here that suggest not being a christian wont get you into heaven
katman, i think jesus would love you if you TRIED to live a sin free life.
mainworry, i can agree with that. though i'm semi-atheist. it makes more sense that a god that discriminates against those who try to be good, but never knew a thing about god.
dottii
perhaps its with mainworry's interpretation of that statement.
and, god's word was NOT if u aint christian u going to hell.
and, if GOD knew me whilst i was in my mother's womb, he'd have stopped that birth, cause you dont know my mother.
Eze 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
i think that can be interpreted as the soul that sinneth without remorse.
yeah yeah! everyone falls short of being good! we KNOW. but, TRYING counts!
how can u all believe god will condemn you if you were NEVER introduced to christianity? doesnt that make god an evil dictator?
some of u guys are making this hard for me. i'd like to hear better arguments. statements that refute mine 100%. i want to be fair, and not give into the answer that i WANT to win the 10 pts (which i've already seen BTW). i want an intelligent response. those trying to refute me havent impressed me at all.
rambus
i can find a different meaning for grace. i can say it means the grace in which u handle your wrongs.
curious
i'm sorry, but your answer still isnt strong enough. it just means to me that bible can be interpreted anyway that u please.
i also think jesus was a really smart guy. not god, though. i think what he has said has been reinterpreted and has been lost in translation. the bible was not written during his existence, so how can u know waht he really said?
also, why are there so many rules in the bible about how to live, when "works dont matter".?
also, i can interpret "works" to be all the things such as going to church and all that other showy stuff, that doesnt mean a thing.
ps curious, god cant be loving if he condemns people who've never heard of him

Jesus becomes the way, the truth, and the life. So Jesus is no longer a man but a representation of those things. Therefore...
The only way to the father is through truth and life, not Jesus.

The bible teaches in Matt 7:23, and elsewhere, that you can be a (so called) Christian and still go to Hell. The only ones who will go to heaven are the ones who have been redeemed by the blood of the lamb (Rev 5:9,) and saved by believing in Christ (Ac 16:31, Rm 10:9)
One should also remember that salvation is not by works, but by grace alone (Ga 2:16). Also, from the Bible, one can see that Jesus and the Father are the same (Jn 14:9.) So in order to come to the Father, Jesus has to draw you to Himself, just like He did on the cross.
hope this helps give a different perspective.
PS, God does not come in three parts, He is whole: 1+1+1=1
Thank you for the opportunity, but I am not trying to convince you perse, but to illustrate something that you should consider that is repeated alot in the bible.
For example, I have a computerized concordance, and when I enter grace, the following come up. You should do the same: you should compare scripture with scripture and let the bible interpret itself: Grace is mercy (salvation...etc., it is spiritual)
Ge 6:8 - notice that if you take it backwards, it will prove your point. But it is not written backwards because God had a purpose in writing it the way he did. It should not read: The Lord found grace in Noah, because in God's eyes, everyone has gone astray.
Ge 19:19, Ge 32:5, Ge33:8, Ge 33:15, Ge 39:4, Ge 47:29, Ex33:12, Ex33:13, Ex 33:17, Ex34:9, Ru 2:10, Especially Ezra 9:8, Ps45:2, Especially Ps84:11, Especially Pr 3:34, Especially Je31:2, Especially Zec 12:10 and so forth.
If I couldn't help you, please invest in a concordance and find the answers in the bible, let God guide you, let the bible interpret itself.
Just touching base on John, God says He is THE way, not a way, He says He is THE life, not a life, and so on.

Jesus loves you no matter what kind of life you lead. I think that there is only one SURE way to know where you are going after you die, and that is by accepting him as your savior. However, who am I to make God's mind up for Him? I will only remind you that Jesus did warn against thinking that you can get to heaven through works (being a good person). If you want to understand Jesus and God better, and be better able to interpret the meaning of the Bible, then you really must look at it as a whole - not verse by verse.
I think it is dangerous to assume that Jesus would die to pay for your sins and then think that you can still just try to live a good life without accepting him. Why would he have had to die if that was enough? Trying to live a good life was what the Jews did for eons, and it was impossible for them to not sin at all. That's the very reason Jesus came.
I think in the end, it is quite possible that there will be exceptions in God's judgement. I do not assume to know what they might be. I only know that I'm better off knowing where I'm going than I was wondering about it before I was saved.

I feel that your interpretation is affected by a resistence to see things as they are. Let's not talk about Christian or not Christian. Let's just see what Jesus says.
Jesus is the way - the way for us to follow. Are you following Him? If you are not following Him, this passage will imply that you cannot get to the Father, who art in Heaven.
Jesus is the truth - truth is a very narrow thing. 1+1=2 not 1.000000001. Do you accept this or do you think that somethings about Jesus is true and somethings are false. If you do not believe that Jesus is 100% true then it again implies in the passage that you cannot get to the Father.
Jesus is the life. The bible says that all the way from Adam and Eve, we are all in spiritual death. In Jesus there is life. If you do not accept Jesus to give you life, then it implies in the passage that you again cannot get to the Father because you reek of death and how can you enter the house of God like that.
I see from your correspondence that you are sincere in your seeking. I loving ask you to accept a God who loves you. Why would you want to reject a loving God?

Heaven exists in all religions, so why worry if some closed minded people believe that you will go to hell for not believing exactly what they think you should. Every one is entitled to their own opinion and every one understands the Bible or other holy text in different ways, so no one is going to automatically agree about everything. One of the fundamental beliefs in Christianity is that you should "love each other, even as I have loved you". (Sorry I don't remember the chapter and verse) God loves us all and wants us to share that same love for our fellow man.
Christians are taught to believe that the only way to get to heaven is through Jesus because He was the only one able to live a sin free life, and His death for our sins is our salvation. I was taught to believe this, but I was also taught that God comes in three parts, God the Divine, God the Human, and God the Spirit. Of course God the Divine, is Jesus but to me God and Jesus are one and the same. If you try to live a life modeled after God's teachings, accept that you will need God's help to do it, and ask for God's forgiveness, than I believe you are still going to be welcomed into heaven.

I believe that was actually my response. The reference (and Jesus made MANY more statement like it) is intending to show that religious truth is not subjective. It really doesn't matter what you think God is, or what you want him to be. Jesus said, HE is the way. Therefore, anyone not teaching "salvation through Christ" is not a "true religion". In that sense, yes, Christians believe that they have the truth. What happens to those outside of faith in Christ is left up to God...but Christians know that they are saved by God's grace in Christ.

Eze 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

sasha, is your arguement with mainworry or GOD'S WORD. not only can GOD see what is in your heart, but you are showing others what you are made of too!
young lady, GOD knew you before you entered your mother's womb, just like jeremiah! you cannot escape HIS DEVINE LOVE!

Sure, if you can lead a PERFECT SIN FREE LIFE, from womb to grave, then you dont need Christ. I agree on this basis.
