What was the national deficit after Mr Clinton? What is the deficit now that Mr Bush is in office?

Is this country in better economic standing? Is George really good at math?

Hey Redd, Do you remember the old TV commercials saying, "this is your brain before drugs and this is your brain after, and then the guy cracks an egg and fries it. The same principle applies here but unfortunately with our country. Our country before Bush jr.; no deficit, race relations were better, international relations better, etc. and after/during Bush.....well you can "look around" and see for yourself. Our country has become the proverbial "fried egg" so to speak. ;) Oh almost forgot, the economy. I know it was better for me and all those around me BEFORE Bush, Now Bush talks about job growth, that's great if you want a job at Taco Bell or Burger King, but in terms of real growth, it's not happening.

I'm not quite sure the exact amount the surplus held at the end of the Clinton administration, but I know it was a modest amount. The latest deficit under George W. Bush, recorded in 2004 was $413 billion dollars. The deficit has been cut slightly in the past year as well.

The economy is not in as good a standing as it was under the Clinton administration. That is because George W. Bush inherited a recession begun in the final year of the Clinton presidency. Also there was a terrorist attack on 9/11 which really hurt the economy. The deficit has run up because we've had two wars during the Bush administration. But the economy, for the most part is in good, if not superb condition.

Completely WRONG. The national deficit was NOT zero after the Clinton regeime. The national debt was close to 6 TRILLION dollars when Clinton Left office. The deficit in the years followed, plus the interest on the debt has made that grow since then. And there was NO year under Clinton where the debt SHRANK. Another liberal myth.

By the time Clinton left office the National Debt was zero. After the first year of the Bush Administration the Nat'l Debt was over 2 trillion dollars. So, who really thinks Clinton did not do a good job? His marital problems notwithstanding, as a President he did more for this country than any other President and all he got was a bad rep from the press.

The deficit is much worse under Bush, however, the countries military is in much better shape, which we need in the world's climate.

I was a soldier under Reagan, HW Bush, and Clinton. Clinton's budget hindered everything military. We were severely restricted on everything. I remember going to the range to actually practice marksmanship under Reagan and Bush. Under Clinton, we were only given sufficient ammunition to qualify with once a year.

GW Bush may be overdoing it a bit, but I'd rather have a prepared and well trained military than a bunch of nonshooting wannabee's that don't know a tank from an outhouse.

Clinton got the U.S.A. out of the (RED) & Mr.Not know it all (A.K.A. George Bush & Co.) got the U.S.A. into a "Black Hole Effect W/So Much Debt That Our Grand Children Will Be Paying For" Clinton was better at Economics Through Diplomacy that the Bush People do not practice. There are not enough fingers in this Country to count how much in Deep Debt that this country is reallt in.

When Clinton took office, the deficit was $290 billion. When he left office, the SURPLUS was $230 billion.

Now, in five short years, Bush has given us a deficit of $521 billion. That's the federal budget deficit.

The national debt is $8.4 trillion. The majority of the debt is owed to foreign investors (i.e. China and Saudi Arabia among others), insurance companies, banks, and other privately held entities.

So no, we're not in better economic standing.

I think the country was way better off with Clinton in office than with Mr. Bush. The economic standing is going down a very steep lane.
