Why the hell do americans insist in saying "soccer" to Real Football?

FIFA should make it illegal everytime they use that "word".

Update:

Because they're morons and they think that that idiotic game they call football is actually a real game.

It's true that the game known as "football" in most of the world is known as "soccer" in the US, but we didn't just pull the word out of the air so that we could call our quasi-gladiatorial extravaganzas "football." In fact, the Brits actually invented the word. "Soccer," when it first appeared in the 1890s, was spelled "socca," which was short for "association" or "association football," meaning football played according to the rules laid down by the British Football Association. It was also called "socker" until the current form "soccer" appeared around 1895.

The "er" suffix of "soccer," incidentally, was often used in late 19th and early 20th century slang, and can also be found in the transformation of the name of the British game "rugby" (named after the Rugby School in England) into the popular term "rugger." Rugby, incidentally, is a sport similar to American football, but played without the helmets and elaborate padding used in American stadiums.

Well if you're a straight guy, women in skimpy clothes slamming into each other will hold a certain appeal. So I have to admit I like that aspect a bit. The problem is as much as I am a fan of the premise, after watching for a little bit, I think the novelty will wear off. That's why I am all for watching attractive women in MMA. One one hand it will change their beauty, but on the other I love the sport and women typically put on exciting fights. Gina Carano: Case in point.

Because, by the time "soccer" became half-way popular over here, we already had a game known as "football" (our OWN invention, as Baseball is!) Understand, when our forefathers and foremothers emigrated over here, we evolved on a totally different tract. Cricket isn't played over here at all, unless it's done for pleasure. Same went for your "football" (our soccer)...it wasn't played over here like it has been for years in England. Only recently has the sport taken off, and for a long time, it was a children's game, not one that had potential as a true professional sport. Here in the southern US, the main sports are baseball and our football, and NASCAR. But there has been a recent a surge in popularity in soccer. It doesn't really matter the reason we call it that, what matters is how the game is played...and we're getting better every year! :)

Because Soccer is close to sucker, and since soccer sucks, that how it became known as soccer. Do you really think American would give a rats bung hole what the FIFA thinks cause the FIFA knows if it wants to make any kind of money it's got to kiss America's buttock

Because in America football is football and soccer isn't worth watching. You put a soccer player against a football player and every time the soccer player is going to get broke.

Because we have an American sport that we call Football, thus disabling us to use the same word for a different sport.

Now honestly, "soccer" should be called "football" everywhere, including the states. I mean, its self-explanatory. football=you use your foot. Not that other dumbass sport where you don't even use your damn foot most of the time. Plus, "soccer" was around WAY before your precious american football was. I think we should start a petition...who's with me?!?!?!?!

For the same reasons that Brits call French Fries "chips". Get over yourself. Its soccer, and it always will be to us! What kind of ball do you play with?!?! A SOCCER ball, not a FOOTBALL! A Football is what we use to play - you guessed it - FOOTBALL!

Because in America there is a football. (ok there are only a few occations when they kick the ball). But since they already have football, they call it soccer.

We made our football before we even discovered your football.

Why does everyone get so mad that we call it "soccer"? What is in a name anyway? A rose by a different name would smell just as sweet. Just calm down.
