Well, I use it in the house all the time when i see ants. It works for me.

Mix equal parts baking powder and powdered sugar. The ants will eat it take it back to the nest and blow up! It works!!

I think this only works with certain species, or in certain environments. It is mentioned in the Wikipedia article, though.
