Unfortunately, yes, in my experience.
Recently I used sprinkling cloves and wiping the area with white vinegar, and although the problem never escaled to a full scale invasion (that is, no continuous line of many, many, ants) we did continue to see as many as 10 at a time in the area.
They went away by themselves when the rain cleared up. The only thing I've found to be truly effective against a full scale siege is spray poison (yes, the ant stakes/traps failed, too).

i know that one way to control an ant problem is by using baby power, talc powder and i suppose chalk might just work. You sprinkle it around sinks and doorwalls...wherever you feel the little shits are getting in. It suffocates them and they die!

Mix equal parts baking powder and powdered sugar. The ants will eat it take it back to the nest and blow up! It works!!

I think this only works with certain species, or in certain environments. It is mentioned in the Wikipedia article, though.
No matter though, give it a shot—one of only two things can happen.
