Has anyone stayed aboard the Queen Mary?
When was your stay and what was the experience like for you?
I can see there are a lot of opinions about it's hauntedness; can anyone give me actual first-hand experience of having stayed aboard her?
This is about the Queen Mary, the original ship now docked as a hotel in Long Beach, California;
NOT the Queen Mary 2!!!

One look at the old Queen, and you realise you're not onboard anything like a modern ship. There's a style, a feel, that has been retained, restored, and occasionally replaced, specifically to take you back to a more glamorous era. The staterooms are old-fashioned and friendly, the large ball and dining rooms enough to make you goggle at the thought of all that went on in them years ago.
The 'haunted' rumors are probably true, though the actual "ghost" tour is Hollywood fakery meets b-grade amusement park ride. Where you meet the real ghostly feelings are in the ship's corridors, which seem unreal and longer than a horizon, in her lifts, which rumble agreeably, and in the quiet times in your room, when the pressure of history, of all the lives that lived the ship's life in peace and war, and those who rode her stately here to there and now are etched like memories in her walls, her floors, the air she breathes today.
My only stay on the Queen was a unique time. My fiancee and I went to stay with her sister-friend, a woman almost as incredible as my girl. We walked the ship, and felt its history tickle up through our feet, and even our sister-friend, sick as she was and not very long for the world, felt peace aboard the ship, and laughed, remembering a feeling she had almost forgotten.
To be on the Queen on a soft-breeze night, looking out at Long Beach after fancy food and the thrum of history beneath my hands and feet, holding the woman that makes my life worthwhile, and feeling special close to a friend I'd never see again while in the world, was an experience that will always be with me.

Sorry, I mis-read your question. I've not stayed on the Queen Mary.
I abosolutely loved my cruise on the Queen Mary 2. It was an amazing ship, I was very impressed. I think that Cunard is one of the better lines that you can choose. Definitely something you should try to experience if possilbe.
To rate it, I think it would be a 9.5 to 9.9. It really was a great cruise. Obviously you won't always have a perfect cruise, but this was one cruise I really didn't have any complaints about.
The only thing you may want to be aware of is the age. Since this is a luxury line it tends to attract a slightly older crowd. Most of the people on board were senior citizens. I'm not really complaining about it, but it is somethig you will want to be aware of before getting on board.
The only thing I would really say wasn't the best, was the activities on board. I just didn't think that there as many on-board activities as some other lines. But it was the perfect time to grab a good book and lay on a lounge chair all day with a cold drink and just relax. It was really nice.
The food, entertainment, service, was all superb, nothing to complain about. You definitely get what you pay for, there is no doubt in that, you really can't go wrong with the line.
Here is a link where you can find lots of people's reviews, read more about Cunard and the QM2, it should really help you: http://cruisecritic.com/reviews/review.cfm?ShipID=...
Hope this helps!
