What do you think about polyphasic sleep?

You can read all about it here: http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2005/10/polyphasi...

Basicly, polyphasic sleep is a change in your sleeping schedule whereas you sleep approximately 25 minutes every 4 hours and that is it. I've read that Einstien practiced it, Edison was known for it, and that Franklin was fascinated by it. The article indicates that most people need about a week to get into it but after that you train your body to enter into REM sleep right when you go to sleep instead of in the case of normal sleep where it may take 4 hours.

Personally, I think it is risky. I don't think it has been investigated long enough to know what the long term effects are on your body and health.

New hair-brained ideas come up every day by people who want to become famous or make oodles of money. It does not mean these ideas are safe or healthy.

It is a well-documented fact that our bodies are refreshed and healing, growth and many normal functions are accomplished when we sleep. It makes me wonder how much of the normal healthy routines of our bodies would continue with such limited sleep.

It seems very inflexable. How would a person who has a job be able to do this? Also, the thing that struck me was how it said if you miss a nap schedule, you could crash and it might take a while to recover. That tells me that it goes against our natural sleep pattern if this is so structured that you might "crash" and recovery will take a while. I don't think it could be healthy for a person. A study was done in 1982 of college student from University of Washington. They took 60 students, 30 of them slept a full eight hours, 30 of them slept in invervals through the day in short burst of 20-30 minutes. They took picutres before and after. The group that slept in short intervals looked horrible. Lack of sleep is not a good thing. REM is only a part of the benefits of sleep. Sleep also allows our body to repair cell damage done through out the day. Less sleep means less time to repair means long term will have bad results. I would be curious to see lab results from a long term case study of someone who has tried this for years.

i do no longer think of that's healthful or must be accomplished by making use of a fifteen twelve months previous. Melatonin is at its optimal height throughout little ones and this reasons a extreme call for for sleep. The physique is becoming, hormones are settling in, and sleep is the time this all occurs. Sleep learn coach that it takes time to get into REM sleep after which you choose a minimum of four hours of REM Sleep to maintain your innovations healthful and alert. locate something else to do including it slow!!
