Can you give a cat Benadryl for allergies?
I will ask the vet first, I just want to know if others have ever done this.

I was given a perscription for benedryl for my cat with allergies and was told to give her 1/4 of a pill. HOWEVER, your cat may react to the medication, or need a different dose based on her size or condition. Always be under a vet's care when giving any kind of medication.

Remember that any medications you have in your home are probably set up for a human dose. Even the largest cats are only a fraction of the size of the smallest human. Benadryl is great stuff but very strong. A cat would only need a tiny bit. Too much could be deadly. As others have said, your vet should be your guide here. I hope your cat is feeling better soon!

Yes, but do talk to the vet first. I have given my cat liquid Benadryl mixed with water (about 1/2 water 1/2 medicine). It does sometimes cause the cat to foam at the mouth so don't be alarmed if this happens.

Most of the time it IS Benadryl that vets prescribe for a pet's allergies, but is best to let the vet decide because they have to decide the dosage, as well as the fact that your pet's problem may not be allergies at all.

Good thinking to ask the vet. I have heard of people giving their pets human medication. But it is normally under the supervision and recommendation of their veternarian. If you are going to do so with out guidance, don't use Benadryl. Use a very small dose of children's medicine and make sure it is as concise to the symptoms as possible. No extra stuff in the medicine and no non-drowsy. All in all I wouldn't do it without Vet help.

NO!!! Do not ever give your cat any medicine without first seeing the vet. Medicine stays in cats much much longer than it does in dogs. You have to give them smaller doses and some meds they cannot take at all.

No! Do not give human meds to cats (the dosage level is vastly different due to mass ratio and cats reactions to chemicals).
Do ask your vet, there are specific meds able to be used for feline allergies.

I've given it to my dog under the supervision of a vet. Dosage will be very differant.

You got it. Be sure to consult with the vet first, as you don't want to harm your kitty in any way.
