What type of tattoo do you have?

I really want to get a tattoo but my wife really doesn't want me to get one....does it hurt a lot to get one and what is your opinion should I get one or not? I have wanted one for years. Any help would be appreciated.

I have 3 tattoos. I got my first tatto when I was 21 and have gotten one every year since then on my birthday. I have a dragon down my thigh, Chinese characters on my back and a lily on the back of my neck. My fiance is really against tattoos and he really discouraged me from getting mine, but I had always wanted one and I really feel that the tattoos I have reflect who I am. I am the last girl in my family to marry and my last name will change with marriage so I wanted to preserve my Chinese heritage. I think that although your wife doesn't want you to get one, if it is really important to you, you should get one. After all a tattoo really is only skin deep. I love my tattoos and don't regret a single one. Does it hurt... yes. I always describe it to people as being cut with a really hot knife. After a while though it goes kinda numb and you don't really feel the pain as intensely. Make sure this tattoo is something that will make sense to you 30 years from now, and try to make your wife understand that this is something that you want and will get whether she supports it or not. After all, I'm sure she has wanted things that you didn't, but you let her do anyways. Such is marriage!!!

I have 3 tattoos: My first one was an ankh necklace around my neck, my 2nd is a portrait of Bela Lugosi (played Dracula in the 1932 version), and my latest is a memorial piece for my grandfather.

As for if tats hurt or not....think about it, you're getting stabbed many, many, many times by a needle. Yes, it hurts. The amount of pain varies by ones own pain tolerance and the location on the body. For instance, the chains of my ankh necklace goes over my collar bones...words cannot express how much that hurt...and my Lugosi is on my right calf...I hardly felt pain. A good way to estimate the amount of pain you'll have is how much muscle/fat is under the skin of where you want your tat placed...any area where the muscle/fat is thin...collarbones, ankles, wrist, etc. is going to be more painful.

Only you can answer if you should get one or not. Just please don't just pick a random design and run out and get it tattooed...you'll regret it in no time.

I have two. I got my first one when I was 18 (ten years ago). It's a dolphin on my shoulder and it only hurt a little when the guy kept tracing over the bone. The second one I got was 5 years ago and its huge, on the small of my back. Its 2 dolphins jumping out of a wave. That one hurt enough to make me clinch my hands on to a stool and turn my knuckles white. On a scale of 1 to 10 it was like a 7, but there's not really much meat back there. It just depends on where you get it. My boyfriend has like 6 and he said the two places it hurts really bad is around your bicep (especially underneath) and on his chest by his nipple. I think you should definitely get one if you really want it that bad. You should talk your wife into it first. See what the reasons are that she doesn't want you to get one. Good Luck. Just make sure you get one that has importance and really means alot to you if not you might regret it.

no tattoos, but if you have wanted one for years, then you should already have some kind of idea of what you are looking for. go to www.myspace.com/customstattoo. he is awesome and will give you ideas on what is best for you depending on the kind of person you are and what your likes and interests are. don;t get one just because you've been wanting one forever. make it something that means a lot to you. good luck, and if your wife loves you,she will support your decision. plus, if you can get it somewhere that only you and your wife can share this, it might be best (for now); also consider your profession or future prospective employers (what would they feel about you having a tattoo?)

HI...I don't have a tattoo,at least not yet...My daughter has a design on her lower back(i'm not sure what it's suppose to be)anyway, she said,"(it hurt like hell)"!!!! She had to set two setting before it was done...My taste is alittle differance.I would like a small butterfly in color or a cute little teddy bear in color.Where to put it??That's the real question...Some parts of your body and feel more pain that over parts...I say,"if you have been thing about getting a tattoo all this time"I would say,"GO FOR IT,DON'T WALK,RUN" Have funnnnn.....

I have 5. Only one hurt, it is an Indian anklet and has a feather running down my Achilles tendon. Don't have one on that tendon. OUCH! The one on my ankle is a wolf howling at sunset inside a dream catcher, I have a growling bear on my other ankle, I have yin and yang made out of a black and white wolf on my low back,a doe on my left breast and a bear cub on my right shoulder. If you really want one I say go for it. Mine are all in places that can be concealed as I am a professional and do not want to share them in the work place.

First I agree with get something you love and don't get something passing like a band name, sport team etc. as you may not love that particular thing forever, however I don't agree that tattoos need to be in a discreet place as I have some beautiful pieces and I am over 40 and do not regret people seeing my tats nor do they look "stupid" I in fact still get many complements just be sure and make them meaningful, or really, really, really cool, lol

I have my lover's initials on the inside of my forearm, a Wolf & moon on one shoulder, and a fantasy seen on the other shoulder. Also have 2 homemades, 1 on each wrist.

The thing to consider is where to place it. I regret the ones on the wrists. Back or upper shoulders are preferred since you can show them when you want, and hide them during work.

I don't think they hurt, but then I like pain, lol. Choose your design and spot carefully; costs more for removal than it does to have it put on.

i suggest if your wife doesn't want you to get one than don't. i didn't get mine until my boyfriend said he was OK with it. i got a seahorse with seaweed design on my lower back. it felt like being stung by bees really fast or a really sharp blade slicing my skin. it hurt but not enough to have cried or anything. just wincing a little. i want to get another on my ankle. i got the OK from my man so ill do it in a few years when i have the extra money. talk to your wife about it. if she agrees to it than make sure you get something you both can agree on. she'll have to live with it too. be respectful and understanding. good luck and i hope you get it.

I have a tribal design 3x5 on my lower back in black.

When I decided I would live the rest of my life as an artist, I wanted to have a rite of passage.

My thought was that my body is my canvas, I will decorate it as I wish.

    Piercings came shortly after...

Yes it will hurt, you will bleed.

Get one of something you are sure to love for a long time.

    They don't remove very easily...
