Cd-rw/dvd combo drive is not being detected in and outside of windows.?

Windows is not detecting my Cd-RW/DVD combo drive on my Acer Aspire 3003Lci. It stopped working when I got it back from the repair depot. I can not access outside of windows either. Can anyone suggest ways to fix this?

Update:

There is power going to the drive because the LED blinks when I turn on my laptop. This is a laptop, not that easy to open it up take a look. When I opened up the drive there was a screw on top of the optical laser. The are that was repaired was on the other side of the laptop.

CD-Drive----------------------Cooling Fan.

The cooling fan was fixed. I restored the hard drive to factory settings and it is still not working. By outside of windows, I mean that bootable cd's don't load.

Update 2:

I have a Pheonix BIOS Version 3A27 ROM Size 512KB Release date 8/24/05

I had the smae problem once. This is what you do.

    1. Call Acer Incorporated at (800)816-2237

    2. Tell them that your CD-Drive isn't working with windows and you can't boot a bootable disk after restarting.

    3. Tell them to send you a new drive, and you will send the old one back.

    4. They will give you options for sending/recieving.

When you say "outside of Windows", do you mean in the BIOS? If the drive isn't being detected in the BIOS, then it's possible (1) the power or IDE cable has been disconnected or the IDE cable is faulty, (2) the BIOS setting was changed, (3) the master/slave jumper setting on the drive (and/or on other drives) has been incorrectly set, (4) the drive is faulty, or (5) the IDE connector on the motherboard is faulty.

To troubleshoot, obviously you'll want to ensure that the power adaptor is connected to the drive and that the IDE cable between the drive and the IDE connector (on the motherboard) is connected. Most likely, if your drive was working before being repaired and it isn't now, this would be the issue. If either is disconnected, just connect it carefully. (When connecting IDE cables, make sure that the side of the IDE cable with the red stripe is connected to the side of the IDE connector marked with a '1'.)

    If it was still connected:

Ensure that there is no setting in the BIOS that is preventing the drive from being detected. You should be using the Autodetect option in the BIOS to overcome this.

If that wasn't the issue: you may want to disconnect all the IDE drives, then connecting the drive to the primary IDE connector, set its jumper setting to 'master', start the computer, and see if the BIOS now detects the drive.

If not, replace the IDE cable and check again. If the BIOS still isn't detecting the drive, then the drive is faulty.

If so, connect the IDE cable to the secondary IDE connector and see if the drive is now detected. If it isn't detected, then the secondary IDE connector is faulty. If it is detected, then it's most likely some conflict or configuration issue between the drive and the other IDE drives.

Certainly, though, if all this sounds foreign and you've never configured the inside of your computer, then simply call the store, explain what happened, and return your computer to them to correct the issue.

I had this problem with a Dell once. I went to their website and it recommended I go into some special screen at start up (please help me out here). The cable I hooked it to was actually turned off inside the computer. After I followed the steps Dell suggested I restarted and it was recognized. I can't remember the technical terms so any translation would be appreciated.

check whether its power supply is all right or not

    make conncetion well

to check power supply check whether LED glow when u start pc or not if the led glow mean its power supply is ok

then check it on other pc if it work there mean ur pc is not compatible and if didnt work there also then it mean that device is bad

    get it changed

first, Try, if it does work on other computers. If not, go kill those who "repaired" it.

take it back to them, they probably forgot to hook the cable up
