You have to apply for a work permit. The best way to do that is to get an attorney. It does take time though. My husband and I have been married for over 9 months and he still doesn't have his. Even though he had an attorney before we got married and was already in the waiting list for one. Since we are still waiting I can not give you an honest answer on how long it will take. I know it is suppose to take about 3.5 years for him to get his Citizenship according to the governerment's website. So that would make it 3-4 years, unless they change the immigration law.
