"St. John's wort is an herb that has been used for centuries for medicinal purposes, including to treat depression. There is some scientific evidence that St. John's wort is useful for treating mild to moderate depression. However, recent studies suggest that St. John's wort is of no benefit in treating major depression of moderate severity. More research is required to help us know whether St. John's wort has value in treating other forms of depression."
I have friends who take St. John's wort and they have found it helpful in the treatment of mild depression. But, you have to be very careful when taking herbal medications because they can have a serious interaction with prescribed medications. So, talk to your doctor before using these pills, but St. John's wort seems to be the most popular that I know of.
Below is a site with more info. Hope that helps!

I tried herbal remedies for my anxiety and they do work. The problem is after you take them for a while you have to change because they will stop working as well. First of all you need to take Coral Calcium (it has a calming effect to it) They say that it is best to take at night, but I take it in the morning because I need to be calmed. Also you need to take a vitamin B12 every day and a good Multi Vitamin (these help to balance the chemicals in your body) You can try Kava Kava pills, Relora I took them both and had great outcomes from both. But like I said you should only take each for 30-60 days at a time that is why you switch off from one to the other. YOu can get all of these vitamins at HiHealth or GNC and they arn't very expensive at all. Good Luck with your anxiety/ depression

St. John's Wort is the only known herbal that will help with depression. Gensing might increase your alertness, and for anything other than minor depression - you will need a prescription.

Depression can become a very serious thing. Activity (such as exercise and staying social(sometimes forcing yourself)), a healthy diet and surrounding yourself with people you can talk to are the best ways to overcome it. If the depression deepens too much or you are having suicidal thoughts, seek out a professional.

I have depression & have tried all the recommended herbs for it---St. John's wart, mullien, etc...
The best thing I have found that works is Bach's Rescue Remedy. It is a liquid & you just apply a few drops under your tongue. It starts working withing minutes.
Below is the cheapest place I have found it, but it can be found in most health stores, too.

St. Johns Wart is suggested but it didn't work for me. I take Fish Oil and it helps tremendously! The omega 3 oil literally makes your brain "slippery" and actually work better and think clearer. It worked for me! Seriously!
