Dec 7,1941 Question ?
It is written in a book that we were set up by our government ,to have our battle ships sitting in PEARL HARBOR for the attack to take place. We were up to that point not deep into the war,but we were helping england. Were we bombed on that day as a set up to have an excuse to go to war with JAPAN ? .With a war going on overseas we should have had these ships on meneuvers (with their battle groups running drills)protecting ourselves.
Instead we were sitting ducks in battleship row.was it a scheme to get us into the engagement?
what thoughts have you on this? I salute all of our vet's both living and those remembered for their and your commitment to keep AMERICA SAFE for all of us.
I only pose a question about a book, that may or may not be fiction ! don't crucify me for the freedom to read.

I think that book you found is simply bull. Roosevelt didn't want war with Japan. He wanted it with Germany! He hoped Japan would back down.
Source(s): John Keegan, probably the greatest living military historian, has an excellent chapter in his book INTELLIGENCE IN WAR that does a good job of explaining where the "conspiracy theories" about Pearl Harbor come from. - scotsmanLv 52 decades ago
Good grief. Don't tell me, let me guess; was it Dan Brown who wrote this book?
Are you really suggesting that the American government was aware that an attack on Pearl Harbor was imminent and conspired with the Japanese High Command to gather the Pacific Fleet in one handy place, so the Japanese Navy could bomb them and that would give America a chance to enter the war - but with the added advantage of having its fleet destroyed first? Is that the scenario?
Apart from the obvious insanity of such a claim, while America was content to sit by and watch democracy wiped off the map of Europe, watch millions marched off to their deaths in the gas chambers, the US did not become involved in the war in Europe because of Pearl Harbor.
While it immediately provoked a war between Japan and America, the US did not automatically go to war with Germany. It was only when the Germans, as an ally of Japan, declared war on them, that America entered the war in Europe.
Keep America safe for me. Please, put your hands up and step away from the voting booth.

Because something is written in a book, it does not have to be real (see the Da Vinci Code, a great piece of FICTION).
It is considered common knowledge that we wanted in. That's why we were supplying one side and allowing mercenaries to fight in Asia. But to say that FDR knew that we were going to be hit and allowed it is grasping at straws. Also a good part of our fleet was in fact deployed.
The truth is that conspiracy theories will abound around everything, sometimes rightfully. But not every act is the result of a conspiracy; sometimes it is a simple error in judgment. We never expected Japan to attack us so far from their home/supplies and power base. We were in fact negotiating with them on the day it happened.
If FDR wanted to set us up he could have done something that would have been far less catostrophic to our fleet and our sailors.
To say that he knew and set us up so that inventions could be discovered, well.... I wasn't aware that FDR had any stochastic ability.
Keep supporting the Vets. Keep questioning things (that's what vets have shed their blood for.) But keep an accurate view of what is going on.

FDR knew of the imminent attack and had to come up with a stirring speech that fit the moment. FDR knew 3 days before the attack and did nothing because it would have interfered with his personal agenda of setting the American government on the track of discovery. Most of the inventions that bettered the country came out of wars. Not only for us but for everyone. In my humble opinion.

Just because someone says it doesn't make it true. That would have been a pretty dumb way to get us into the war, if that was his intention all along.
The ships were lined up as a precaution against sabotage. There were many Japanese immigrants living in Hawaii, and they were afraid those people would sabotage the ships and planes.

Great conspiracy idea. While I do believe that FDR was one of the 5 WORST Presidents we ever had, he would not have allowed us to be "set up" to go to war with Japan. He was much more concerned with the war in Europe.

It was a huge misteak and we did have our carriers out on manuvers so I dont think it was a conspiracy just a combination of misteaks. Even now if you attack us on a holiday it would be when we are least ready.
God Bless all that have made and are making the sacrifice for us to live Free.
Good Luck and God Bless!!

Personally, it's a conspiracy theory but it's all guesswork until some person inside the Oval Office blows the whistle or uncovers some piece of documentation evidencing this.
