Hard to say. Is the monitor's power light on? Make sure the monitor is plugged in, and that the power button is on. If still nothing, try hooking the monitor up to a different pc if you can, to make sure the monitor is indeed working. If the monitor's fine, you may need a new video card in your PC.

It could be the monitor or even the CPU, however it depend on some other sysmptoms. Do the lights on the CPU and the monitor turn on, when you hit the switch? is the monitor cable behind the CPU tightly fastened to the CPU? Do the lights on the monitor turn from orange to green? Does the CPU make a beep after a few seconds of being turned on?

When you check all these and verify their states, you may be in a better position to determine whats wrong, or give more information so someone can tell you definitely whats wrong.

if the monitor power light is on, and the screen is black, then probably a problem with the video card. If the monitor is showing out of sync, or anything, it is a video card problem, yo can try to unplug the monitor from the back of the computer and replug it, try the monitor on another computer to see if it works

    1. If Ur monitors power indicator remains off. Then its Ur monitors problem. Check monitors power cord.

    2. If Ur monitors power indicator remains in standby mode. Then its Ur hardware problem. If Ur computer beeps then it may be Ur VGA Card or Memory problem.

Does it even turn on? Check the connectors on the back of the monitor to check if the monitor has failed. If it still doesn't work get a new video card.

I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. The best PC cleaner and antivirus program is CCleaner, it's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate.

CCleaner is also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than nomal. Download it here for free: http://bit.ly/1mQZhtQ

you do no longer might desire to purchase a sparkling workstation - the undertaking you're having is application-appropriate, so restoring your workstation might fix it for specific. (Restoring is the place you detect the discs that initially got here with the workstation, or you press the biggest it tells you to press to repair while it you turn the workstation on. The fix will positioned all the information on the workstation lower back to the way they have been while the workstation became new. the only situation with restoring is that any courses you put in or any information you created would be erased). So, you ought to repair it your self, or carry it to a working laptop or workstation tech place the place they possibly might attempt to keep all your information and then fix it. P.S. Your chum sounds like he does not understand what he's doing.
