I've been hacked before. To prevent such events, have a Anti-Virus program, Windows Defender (if you're using Windows), a Firewall and update your system regularly.

I think there are some programs that would offer an option to hide your IP address.

And to avoid being hacked for password, try not to save any important password in your computer. For example, you might have a dail-up connection set up and you've saved your password on the dailer. Hackers could easily find a software to reveal what is saved. Even if it is hexed when you see it on your screen.
