"my god, my god, why have you forsaken me?"?

did jesus lose his faith here?

or did he just do that to fulfil scripture. if so, what's the significance of saying it?

Update:

i understand what u christians are saying. but i need something more. didnt christ KNOW what taking the sins of the world would entail? even god abandoning him for a minute?

Well you are partly right. He became seperated for GOD for a short time so he could take the sins of all of us upon him. God can not look upon sin so Jesus was alone and human on the cross. He paid the Ultimate price. He never lost his faith because he and GOD are one person. There is a passage that when he was praying in the garden of Gesemane he said Oh that you would take this cup from me(his crucifiction) but he then prayed but it is your will not mine that be done.So I dont know if this helps you any but it shows the fulfilment of the prophsey and that he had to be human to die for our sins yet never lost his faith or beliefs.

At that time there were few recorded biblical texts and those that were there were memorised by the priests and the texts were kept in safety. When Jesus stated that it was a two fold reason. Fist Jesus became Sin, and the Father can not look upon sin so he turned away from Jesus. Second when Jesus said that it was to remind the priest of Psalm 22, which begins with My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? This psalm fortold of Jesus and the crucifixion of Him. This showed the priest He was truly the Son of God.

No God the Father turned from away from Jesus for the first time because the sin of the world was placed upon Jesus.

God the father having to look away from him, since the sin of all humanity came upon him he had to look away. Jesus the son could feel the gaze of his father being taken away because of the evil of the sin and that was the most crushing thing that he felt trough out the whole act of redemption!

Jesus said this, because for the first time God had to turn his back on Jesus. He turned His back because Jesus had to take on all the sins of the world to save us. What's cool though, is the sky turned pitch black at that instant.

He was quoting Psalms 22 which was a prophecy written hundreds of years before Christ about His death. Jesus began the quote, so tht the Jewish people would remember the prophecy and realize He was indeed the Messiah.

Source(s): read Psalm 22, but I read it last night on YH answers

He was the only Man on earth to ever be forsaken by God. He was fully God and fully man. The Father had to forsake Him in order for him to pay the price for our sin. The Father poured out his wrath on his Son for our salvation.

The real question is this, according to the gospel accounts, the people witnessing the crucifixion did not understand this outburst in Aramaic. Since it was their language, why didn't they?

I say the writer used the words of King David to add credibility to the whole tale.

Christ bore OUR sins on the cross, sacrificing Himself for us. Dying, that we may live and never die. Sin causes separation from God, and at the time of the sacrifice, God had to turn his back on His son.

Lost Faith, a god, I think not. Don't forget He was part mortal, He could pain, and He did fulfil scripture
