Do you own a vehicle or do you just need driver's insurance? Driver's insurance is fairly cheap, but some companies only offer policies to auto-owners. If you have a vehicle, is it financed by a bank? If so, your bank will REQUIRE you to have liability plus comp & collision, known as full-coverage. Full coverage is more expensive than liability only. If your vehicle isn't financed (paid off) you can carry liability only on your vehicle, which doesn't cost as much. However, most companies charge what is called an inexperienced operator charge for persons with less than 3 years driving experience. If you are with one of the companies that do this, you will experience high insurance rates for the first three years that you drive. You will still be charged this EVEN if you are on a parents policy. After you have acquired 3 years of driving experience, your inexperienced rate will be taken off and you will have normal rates. This of course is only if you acquire no tickets or have accidents during those three years. If you are inexperienced and you have an accident that is your fault or get a ticket, your insurance will be astronomical! So drive safely.
Here are a couple of top agencies in the US: Farm Bureau, State Farm, Farmers Auto, Nationwide, Allstate, Geico, Progressive, AIG, GMAC and there are many many others that I could list, but that would take all day. Go to Yahoo and search for auto insurance. Many companies now offer online quotes, although I recommend getting a local agent who you can speak to in person or via phone.

Call a local independent insurance agent, one who handles more than one company.

at a young age you should put the insurance in a parents name and go on as a casual driver. It would be very cheap for you and no extra cost to your parent or even ask your parent to put the car in there name and you as a casual driver.
