Well, I'm serious 5% of the time. So out of 100 questions I answer, yours might be one of the five serious ones I decide to answer.

    Was this a serious question?

Its easier and more comfortable to answer the irrelevant questions. And its kinda fun!

For the serious questions, it takes a bit of thought and sometimes people prefer not to think too deeply. Some questions are just plain hard to answer.

By the way, I apparently posted a hard question earlier today, with no answers at all so far. I asked about a 9/11 victim whose picture appeared in Time and Newsweek, and was wondering if anyone knew what happened to her. She was the young red haired lady, covered with blood, yet sitting up very straight and appearing alert. She wore a red dress.

    Anyone know?

That is because of what is required to answer them.

Most serious answers require knowledge or at least previous contemplation of the subject. Therefore, chances are there are more people that don't have an answer then there are that do have an answer.

With silly questions, the only thing you need to answer the question is creativity. They are questions that almost ANYONE could answer, and therfore you get a greater number of answers.

I have noticed that when I answer serious questions lately, somehow way down the line from me will copy and paste my answer and my cites. That kind of takes a lot of the fun out of it.

But if it is still helpful to the Asker, I am glad, but I can see that to a lot of people this is just another form of some kind of computer/video game: who can type the fastest, be the most insulting, break the rules the most, etc.

Yes, but I also discovered that if you think that it is a silly question, and you answer accordingly, sometimes the person doing the asking doesn't think it is silly and gets quite upset because you answered it as such. I guess it all boils down to the fact that written material can be interpreted differently by different people.

Yes it is true because the serious questions need an intelligent answer and if you think that you can't give one then you don't answer but the silly ones are fun and don't hurt anybody.

It all depends upon who is logged in at the time. I have found that questions have a life expectancy of about 1 or 2 minutes and then they are lost in the pile of endless binary files.

It often takes more time to type out a question than it will last in the current list of queries. That's why Q&A is limited to a few quips and quotes.

If I have a serious question, I'll put that in the DETAILS section of the question before I submit it.

I'll also say something to the effect that serious or humorous answers only. If anyone's rude or obscene or point gaming, they will be reported.

Better they have a heads-up before posting a stupid answer.

I think the people here are answering questions like crazy and when they come up on a serious one they are drained by answering so many questions, so they write what pops up at the top of their saturated brain.

Yeah, some people (like me) just want to have fun here.

If I find a serious ? that I know the answer to, then I answer it. If not, I'll leave it to someone who knows.

    No big deal.
