Effexor:has any woman had symptoms of menopause when began taking Effexor?

The week I began taking Effexor, I started getting hot flashes, and my period hasn't been seen since, 2 months ago, which is unusual. I'm 47 years old. I have vivid dreams and I have awakened sweating bullets - which is not entirely unusual. My period disappearing is out of the ordinary and I didn't have hot flashes previous to this. All I have learned says this drug is supposed to take away hot flashes. My doctor says it takes away hot flashes. Anyone else?

I have been taking Effexor for a little over a month now, and although I haven't seen or felt any changes yet for my anxiety/depression, the side effects are definitely odd. The sweating has been the worst for me --anytime, anywhere- and def. night sweats, as well as an odd taste in my mouth that I can only equate to a baking soda type taste. I have also had 2 periods in this time ( I'm 41) which was really unusual for me as I was very regular. You might be experiencing menopause. I would definitely talk to your doctor about all of this -- sorry I wasn't more help -- just wanted you to know you weren't alone!!!

It is important to listen to ones own body and report ones experiences to doctors who actually listen and take the patient experience seriously and respectfully. I do not have specific experience with Effexor, but have had issues with doctors not respecting the patients experience. Also 47 is a time when menopause is possibility. Your doctor can run tests to determine what stage of perimenopause you may be in.

me, it sent me into menapause, it was horrible, i didn't know what was going on and my doc just said that some women just have early menapause. i finally told him to change my meds and he put me on paxil. when the menapause continued, i assumed his first diagnosis was correct. turns out he was dead wrong, on both counts. i spent four years of shear hell before i stopped taking the paxil. turns out, that both of these drugs do that and they also deplet the body of calcium. i am now symtom free. i'm not gonna go so far to ask if this is somehow a plot against women for some reason, but i have had several other friends {we are all 30-38} who began these meds for depression only to find out what hell was really about. get off that drug fast
