financial aid when my dad hasn't filed taxes?

heres the deal, i will have to take out student loans in order to go to college, my parents aren't paying for anything, i have no problem with this, i haven't let them pay for my first two years of college so nothing has changed. but my dad has filed an extention on his taxes and the financial aid department at the school i am transfering to says they have to have his taxes before i am elligable for any kind of financial aid. does anyone know what i can do about this??

    THere's nothing much you can do. I would expain to them that your dad filed an extension and you don't have his taxes. I know FAFSA lets you file without taxes - you file your taxes as an estimation. Maybe you can see if the school will let you estimate the taxes for financial aid - and then when the actual taxes are filed, then give them those. Have you filed for FAFSA? I know the priority deadline was March 1 - but otherwise get it in by June 1 and you can still get money. Talk to the financial counselor at the school and just explain the situation to them and see if they have any ideas for you.

    You could explain to the financial aid counselor and then try to get an estimate followed by the real thing if they are flexible. You can always take a quarter off too.

    Nothing you can do, my boyfriend doesn't even live with his parents anymore but they still claim him, so he has to go harass them forever to give up their tax info. It's a crazy system.
