You say the spots are on the skin. Are they visible under the hair or on its belly. If they are just color and not raised like a lesion, then it is probably just the skin's coloration. Some white dogs will have mostly pinkish skin but it's not uncommon for them to have some colored pigment on their body somewhere. Given the fact that the dog is 6 months old it's possible that the coloration is just now coming out. You know how little kids are blond haired until they're ten and then their hair changes to the color they'll have all of their lives. Similar deal. When the dog is still a pup, it may not show its spots. Also, dog's skin is also UV sensitive. The warmer, sunnier time of year is upon us, so it may bring the spots out (like freckles). If the spots are raised, like a sore or lesion, then your dog may be allergic to something. Or it may have gotten bitten by a flea. The white dogs (and i believe most Maltese are white, if not all) usually do have more sensitive skin than darker colored dogs. If they're "freckles" just relax. If they're sores then maybe you should visit your vet. If it's your first dog, then consult a friend or five, and see what vet in your area is recommended. It's always a good idea to have a good relationship with a vet if you're going to have animals.
