what would happen if everything in the U.S. wasn't about Republicans and Democrats?

What if it was just about America itself and the best things for it. Screw the political parties. Each one has an agenda to make things better for themselves. Lets quit being so damn selfish and do things for America as a whole. Is that unreasonable? Or is it impossible?

Update:

this is just for some of the folks that think i just sit around bitching and not doing my part...i haven't been able to vote the past 12 years, because when your overseas, abisintee ballots don't seem to make their way overthere, until its over...and being in the military, you pretty much can't speak out to much. I finally did and i got discharged for a personality disorder. So i haven't just sat on my *** bitching folks. and i do plan on continuing my part. i love this country and hate see it go down the drain.

um, after the anarchy that came about from nobody having anythign to argue about or with, some new parties that are pretty mcuh the same thing probably with the same names would spring up

You answered your own question, then asked another.

That is, in theory, what both parties are trying to do. It's not the existence of the parties that make the system seem so bad, it's the fact that people do not give a rats *** how things are as long as they are getting what they want. If the people of this country really wanted change they could make it happen, but they don't. Americans like how ****** up America is. They like bitching about it too, just like you.

In Erie County, New York, The political parties don't matter. The previous Mayor of Buffalo, and the current county executive ran as both Republicans and Democrats, unopposed, on the same ticket. In NY, You can run with as many parties as you want. I don't think their party affiliation matters though, there haven't been any changes in the quality of living here for quite sometime. Its like it is 1976 everyday.

It proves that when there is no competition, and no need to get votes, there is no great desire to improve the quality of life. To be a politician here, you need to be appointed by the unions.

I would have to disagree with the premise of this question. With no competition, there is no incentive. I would support and vote for anyone who is willing to do something different in this hell hole.

I think things would get better. There are other parties out there trying to get on ballots and make a difference. The huge influences of the two major parties blocks everything they can, anything that might be a threat to their stanglehold on the US. Sad thing is, all the sheeples living in the US are too stupid to know the difference anymore.

It will be like it was in the past...

America has ALWAYS been a more then ONE Party country.

    First Two-Party System:

    Federalists v. Republicans, 1780s - 1801

    Second Two-Party System:

    Democrats v. Whigs, 1836 - 1850

    Mid-19th Century Political Crisis:

(Disputes over slavery in the territories first erode, then destroy what had become America's second two-party system. The erosion began in the 1840s as various factions opposed to the post-Jackson Democratic political coalition begin to form.)

    ~Liberty Party

    ~Free Soil Party

    ~Whigs

    ~American Party

    ~Republican Party

    The Election of 1860:

    ~Democrats

    ~Republicans

    Politics of the "Gilded Age":

    ~Republicans

    ~Democrats

    ~Populist Party

It is possible if we the people start becoming more involved in the government, demand a multiple party system by voting for candidates and platforms we really believe in instead of the lesser of two evils, and let our government leaders know that we will not accept laws written by and for industry.

I think that you would find the democrats willing to go along with that, but the other party would resist the change, they would not be able to get the payback from helping big business and the very rich.

that would rule, we might be able to cut taxes giving more money to people to open businesses & create more jobs. more jobs, more commerce, better economy. honest politicians to repeal the patriot act & all the other bills, laws & policies that obstruct making the usa better & stronger. we could get rid of the supercop agencies that are very unconstitutional, posse comitatus, no using military against civilians. waco, texas really tripped me out. a smaller hovernment is a better government, less taxes to run it.
