Have you lost your ambition? I have. Anyone feel the same?
I used to be very ambitious, career wise, but now I don't care. Ever since I fell in love, my priorities have changed, and as long as I am happy I don't care about slaving my way to the top, or until I hit a glass ceiling.
I have a great paying job, but it's not my dream job. I work with great people too and don't dread going in. Now I cannot downsize in pay to work in my preferred industry.

It's all a matter of perceptions. If, as you say, that your priorities have changed since falling in love, the need to rearrange your finances must also be changed. Why can't you accept a lower paying job? And since it would be in your proffered industry, a drop in pay would only be so because it's new. You weren't paid a big sum when you started out on your present job, or did you? You did have to slave initially, right?...to get where you are now?
It could be your happy state of affairs now, or just plain burn-out. Either way, I think you need time away from your job to evaluate your present situation and see if you can make do with less....since you'd be happier in your preferred industry.
Good Luck, Peace.

At the age of 35 I think I've reached the peak of my career. I recently filed an optional retirement and dont have any plans of working in the near future. I think I've already lost my ambition. All I care about now is to be with my kids. I want to see them grow up. They are going to be young only once and now is my chance to be with them

it is obvious that your ambition is tied to the amount of money you will make. i can tell you that having your dream job will more than make up for lost wages. i did it and now you cant wipe smile from my face. unfortunately, if money motivates you, i am making what i did in 1995.

It depends what your motivation is, if it's money, you'll never be satisfied, if it's love you'll reach a point in your career where you realize that living life is more important than anything else.
You're there, congratulations.
Enjoy it.
