Can carcinoid tumour present clinically as euphoria, due to the increased serotonin level?
I recently saw an episode of "Grey's Anatomy", in which it is mentioned that a patient experiences euphoria and feeling of being in love, due to increased level of circulating serotonin, released by a carcinoid tumour. I wonder if this is true, and how common this is?
P.S. I am a med student myself, and I have learnt about carcinoid tumour already, so I won't need explanations on what carcinoid tumour is, what the common presentations are, etc.
I'm on a break... which means I'm surrounded by my family members instead of experts =)
I've tried googling but can't find a good answer... so I'm trying to see if anyone can help me here.
I haven't read anything in textbooks either... but I'm thinking if this is really possible. I mean, I know as a fact that carcinoid tumours release serotonin and I know serotonin can affect emotions. But does 2 plus 2 really add up to 4?

I've gone to several different sites and also checked in my medical books I have here and there is nothing to substantiate that there is a connection between the two.

Yes, it's definitely true. Everything on TV prime time is true. The law requires truth in all fictional drama TV shows. I saw it on Oprah, so it must be true too.
