Why do people ask questions and only select answers with which they already agree?
While it isn't limited to the politics area, a LOT of people seem to ask loaded questions and then select as "best answer" the person who merely agreed with them in the fashion that they prefer (sometimes being merely a string of insults to the group that the question was directed against, other times a more eloquent agreement but still lacking substance). For example, if someone asks a question regarding America's actions elsewhere in the world, it seems like anyone who offers a coherent defense or explanation is ignored, while someone who supports even the most outrageous claim, no matter how poor the answer, is still selected? Why ask a question if one doesn't desire an informative answer?
I am sorry, I didn't mean that every question asked here is asked in the above described manner, merely that a noticable portion are.

There is a great deal of increase to self-respect if someone who has low self-esteem can feel he or she is part of a larger group. If they have surrendered their self will to that group, then they are accepted and they do not have to make decisions on their own, all their opinions and choices have been made for them.
This is always very popular, and no it is not only for conservatives or only for liberals. There are conservatives on this site whose opinions I respect, and there are liberals who cannot think for themselves. Go ahead and check through my answers and you might see what I mean.
Source(s): Yes, when we try to make a meaningful answer and then find we have wasted our time, it is very frustrating. - Anonymous5 years ago
Most of it has been covered. Here are the ones I skip: 1) Questions where I find all the names boring, but nothing is really wrong with any of them. "What should I name my daughter -- Jenna Rose, Alexis Marie, or Kayla Grace?" If I were to answer them, it would probably be with "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a ****." 2) Questions that say, "Can you tell me some good names for a boy?" without any other details of what kind of names the person is looking for. 3) Questions where it's obvious the person is lying. "My husband and I already have 5-year-old identical triplets and 2-year-old boy/girl twins. We just found out we're having septuplets! We're so excited! What should we name them?" 4) Questions that ask, "What kind of person do you imagine when you hear the name Stephanie Lynn? What hair color, eye color, personality, etc.?" I usually just feel like I'm stereotyping if I answer these, and they're usually asked by someone named "StephieBear" or "steph3467" anyway. 5) Questions that ask, "My baby girl was born on 08/12/2008 at 1:16 p.m. What should we name her?" I see these all the time, and I'm assuming they want some names with astrological significance that I'm just not qualified to give. 6) The "Can you list a name for every letter of the alphabet?" questions. Yes, I can -- in fact I can probably give you 20 names for every letter. I'm not going to bother with it again. I don't mind some of the types of questions that other people have mentioned. I enjoy most of the baby name games. I'll even answer Slappy-esque questions if I have something clever to contribute. I don't mind when people ask questions about what they've already named their children, but I'll certainly put a more positive twist on my comments if the name has already been bestowed on a child.

Most questions are really just looking for someone to agree. it is hard to understand or allow foreign ideas. It takes time to recognize whether that foreign idea really applies to you. First the seed, then the water, then the shoot, then the plant and maybe a crop.

So let me get this straight I think that Bush sucks, so I ask a question like, How many here think Bush sucks and why, and you answer that he is a boy scout and loves his mother and that you don't think he sucks, I am suppose to pick your answer as best. I am looking for when asking this question for the best answer as to why Bush sucks. I don't care if if he loves his mother, unless of course incest is involved. So no I would not pick your answer as best. How is this wrong?

Not true, I choose best answers a lot because the answer makes me laugh, sometimes it is an incorrect answer, if based solely on politics, there is apparently no correct answer, so I usually put it to a vote, based on facts, I usually choose the answer that is factually true.

Beacuse the host of the question would not want to give someone they do not agree with the 10 points, or they do not have the ability to think outside of their box

I agree... MANY people don't cite their answers as well... and that sometimes annoys me... but I do it too... I try to cite numbers though...
There is a lot of propaganda on here though... the same old thing people have been saying on here for as long as it's been up...some may consider it a good answer...I try to stray away from most of it...

Because they only want a answer that confirms what is already in their mind. Every one has an opinion no matter if they say they don't.

It appears that you have just asked a question in the manner in which you described. LOL. It happens, just late it go man.

They do it simply to reinforce their beliefs and ideas. So by choosing someone who answered the question exactly as they think they have vindicated their own internal ideologies as "correct". But hey, you already knew that ;)
