Should The Da Vinci Code Movie Be Banned?
I have read that the movie is based on the book, and the movie opens worldwide May 19, 2006. Most of the things the book says about Christianity and the Roman Catholic Church are not true at all. Do you think there should be a worldwide ban on the movie?

This question is soooooo contagious that I just had to do it lol.

I dont think that it should be banned, even fiction has it's own lessons we can live by. I also believe some of it was actually true. I believe dan brown says some of the book was actually none-fiction and fiction. I think what we can do is, take what we can and believe in and leave the rest behind. I believe that in everything there is a symbolic message for us to understand....

I dont see any point in banning the film. Most of the people who want to see it have already read the book which has already been circulated a lot. The Dan Brown novel is a work of fiction like most other films. Does this mean that other films should be banned as well? A novel is basically a work of fiction and it shouldn't be taken as a historical document. Apart from this, Jesus has been influential because of the word he spread and the miracles that he performed. Those facts dont change whether the novel presents the truth or not... Is the faith of the christian community so weak that they'll stop believing in jesus just by the release of a film? Why deny people the pleasure of seeing an interesting novel in a film? Why prevent the truth from coming out if there is indeed truth? Is this a hypocracy in which on one side society supports inventions, scientific discovery and a quest for truth and on the other hand tries to ban a film thinking that it may reveal something convincing? People are free to think as they want.... one could either take the movie as an adaptation of a novel or as a historical documentary..... however in no way is this film being promoted as a historical documentary....its a work of fiction In addition banning it will only have negative repercussions: 1. People will be more convinced that the catholic church is trying to hide something 2. there may be communal tensions in a country like INdia. The catholic community is normally uninvolved in such communal tensions....but banning the film will create negative sentiments towards the community

it really is so contagious and the way people freak over it is quite funny in my opnion.
I do wish people would stop with the banning idea. (not being cruel) just that if we ban this then we should other movies that the church doesnt like. Or perhaps we should ban movies that the church approves of. It can go either way. we all have an opinion, an idea, a theory. Why should one be banned because it is different from the church?

The book is a work of fiction and doesn't pretend otherwise. The hullabaloo about this just isn't warranted! And a worldwide ban is the dumbest thing I can imagine. Just read the book yourself and do a little research at the library or on the net instead of relying on hearsay about what it says about Christianity and the Roman Catholic Church. And please don't just read catholic books unless you want a very biased viewpoint. Try thinking on your own. After your research you should be more knowledgeable on the subject.

What i Don't get is if all the stuff in the boook is completely fiction, then why is the Catholic church and all hard core christians freaking out over it?
No I don't think the movie should be banned. It is going to be a freaking awesome movie!

No we must not ban this movie. The Da Vinci Code is said to be a mere fiction but it shows us something important which hidden by the Catholic Church. The details in the movie are from a book entitled "The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail" its not a mere fiction but a mystery that we must solve.we mus'nt waste time we must work now.

No, it should not be banned, but people who shouldn't contribute to its success include:
1. Christians, Roman Catholic or otherwise, who believe that Jesus is the Christ. Not to say that you are not a Christian if you do see it. Maybe you're a writer or just want to check out what the hooplah is all about.
2. Those who are griping about the high price of gas.

No one knows what things in the bible are true or not because no one is alive from way back then. If you truly have faith in what you believe then nothing will deter you from that. So how is it going to hurt you to be open minded to other beliefs or ideas? Especially ideas coming from a work of fiction.

Yes of course why this film that is misleading is not banned in Muslim country yet they banned the movie The passion of Christ that describe the true about Jesus Christ

If anything that is false should be banned, then every single action movie ever made should be banned.
