If You Were President, what would you do to keep immigrants from entering the U.S. illegally?

The reality is that US immigration policy is inherently racist. The moment you use a quota system in a lottery to figure out who can come in, you are a racist. We need to resolve this once and for all. Amnesty won't work because we don't enforce the laws. America tried amnesty some twenty years ago, and here we are.

For the record, it's not just Mexicans, but illegal immigrants from anywhere including Western/Eastern/Central Europe, Asia, Africa, and South/Central America.

What we need to do is resolve our racist policies the following is an example of what I would do:

1.Simplify the process

a.Charge $3000, USD.

b.Request proof of birth, proof of no criminal record, work history and 6 references

2.Give a specific time-frame say 1 year.

3.No quotas, if you pass, you pass. If you don’t pass, you are not welcome, not even to visit.

a.If you don’t pass there must be an initial review to make sure nothing was missed

b.There should be a 1 time appeal. The results of which can not be contested.

4.Once in the US, you are on a temp status for the next 6 years. If you want permanent status, then you must prove the following:

a.You have worked/gone to school,

b.Paid all relevant taxes (local, state, federal),

c.Committed no crimes,

d.Have a minimum capacity of functional English (speak/read/write).

5.Complete all of item 4 and you get your initial application fee back (less interest).

6.Any illegal in the US at the time of the law would be allowed to submit their papers locally without fear of incarceration (unless other criminal issues attach). They should submit the same documentation and expect no preference during the approval process. They should be allowed to stay here during the process. If found to be unacceptable, jail and then deportation.

7.Make it a crime to hire illegal immigrants. With a simple formula: Whoever is responsible for hiring does 5 years for each illegal hired; this could only be served sequentially, not concurrently.

8.For anyone who opts to remain illegal or come here illegally after the new immigration standard:

a.No benefits; not medical, dental, no driver’s licenses, no emergency room visits, nothing.

b.The same would apply for the children of illegal immigrants born here.

9.The key is that immigration must be reasonable and fair.

I would build a wall, much like the berlin wall, along the souther boarder of the US. The wall would 60' tall and 20' thick. Along the top of the wall would be armed guards and search lights. Infront of the wall would be 100' of razor wire that is stacked 10' high that will carry 100,000 volts of electricity. There would large x-ray machines that would scan all vehicles to make sure no illegals gain entry. On the southern face of the wall there would be signs that state if anyone can successfully scale the wall they would be granted citizenship.

I would streamline the process to enable them to enter legally. That should reduce illegal traffic and make it easier to get some real security, which would be best accomplished by adding manpower (and equipment) at the borders and ports. Not by building a wall or any such crap.

Change the law so that it does not take an absurdly long time to enter legally. All illegal immigration is a result of stupid laws. Change the stupid laws, and the problem is solved.

Within a heartbeat. Illegal immigrantion is one of this nations largest problems. Don't let politician sugar coat the problem. The U.S. Should have no problem with Hispanics but we should not allow illegal immigration in this country. It only hurts us.

You know, at one time, it was illegal for women or minorities to vote. It was illegal to drink any alcohol. It was illegal to cook food on Sunday. George Washington was stopped for traveling on the Sabbath (illegal in that state). My point is maybe we need to redefine what "illegal immigration" is, and separate Serious illegal immigration from minor illegal immigration". Would you prefer we shoot people for jaywalking too? Our country was created by immigrants, our constitution and bill of rights drafted by immigrants. They are this country's legacy! The rise of Nazism in Germany grew by spreading ethnic hatred and blaming other ethnic groups for their social problems. Do we learn nothing from history and man's mistakes?

CLOSE THE BORDERS!!!! It's so simple even that dipsh*t President we have could figure it out. More military patrol with for real ammo. Maybe a huge electric fence that gives you one hell of a sting that even if you don't get killed by it you suffer some hell of consequences with radiation.

because the President of Mexico tells them they don't. The Mexican President desires to close his northern borders only as he has achieved such as his southern borders. He desires to grant for all and sundry in his u . s . a .!

build the wall higher. if they chose to come over the wall escort them back over immediately. have u.s. guards enough to do the job right have camerss on them and the wall to insure all is being handled properly.give citation to the mexican goverment for one of theirs crossing over the border. which must be paid. this would prove we mean business this time.
