Why is the word 'god' censored on TV when taken in vain?

I know that one of the commandments states that one should not take the Lord's name in vain but 'god' isn't actually his name. Of all the names of God in the Hebrew Bible, the one appearing the most frequently is the Tetragrammaton.

People interpret the bible in different ways. Some people will extend the "don't call God's name in vain" rule to include things that other people wouldn't. If enough people feel offended and complain to the networks about it, the networks will then censor it to please the public because not pleasing them is bad for business.

So the will of a few is imposed on all (and yet people still think they have free speech).

Abusing the word (God) is a very serious matter, as there is only one God.

Echoing of such word in vain, as you put it, is not going to solve anything.
