In trolling for "featured questions," do you think the Y! Answers team should find more obvious violations?

The featured questions are updated fairly regularly, yet some of the worst violations can stick around for weeks, or forever. Do you think the Y! Answers team should find more on their own, or devote more resources to investigating user reports? Or do you feel their overall efforts are satisfactory and running an entertaining site is more important, and a few bad apples are bound to go unnoticed?

I no we will all want the serious violations taken care of, but I have to wonder if what really has us all up in arms is the Y!A team that continues to spank people for all of the less critical violations. I would love to see them do a 100% drop of all none critical violations and focus on the ones I’m sure we would all agree really matter.

I'm going to guess that, while Yahoo! takes the Answers community seriously, the online team responsible for content probably handles a number of other online content pages also. It's difficult to monitor a dynamic page - where almost real time communication on a global scale is taking place - and if you consider the fact that there are tens of thousands of users (if not hundreds of thousands) - the task becomes almost impossible.

Fortunately, Yahoo! had the foresight to allow the Answers community the ability to police the site by including a 'report violations' feature (located beside every question). Reported violations probably number in the tens of thousands also, and rather than just doing a blanket delete of every question or statement that someone finds offensive, Yahoo! no doubt has a team taking a look at each one. The sheer numbers, the ongoing additions to the database, and the need to handle multiple pages at the same time dictate that some violations will hang around for a while.

Featured questions are probably selected by the marketing team for their general interest.

  • I think that they count on us to report the violations. I wish that they would stop worrying so much about "chatty" questions and crack down on the really incredibly sick stuff.

I enjoy the site as it is entertaining and a good way to communicate with people who are fun and provide great insights.

What I would appreciate is clarification when I ask YahStaff to explain what I did IF I don't understand and if I feel something was wrongly removed.

I accept many of my Violation notices like a big girl but I asked one time and was just emailed the rules.

My own personal opinion is that they should post the Community Guidelines in a more obvious place, where anybody coming into Yahoo Answers will see that there are rules here. As it is now, you have to click on "what's going on in answers?" way up in the top right corner, then scroll down a list to find Community Guidelines. Not too many people are going to bother doing that. There should be a big button on the front page of Answers that says "THE RULES".

have you ever observed that Troll Patrol individuals usually have money owed that are activated an identical day or in the final couple days? comprehend why? by means of fact human beings are not going to post with them being Junior Nazis whose mommies did no longer purchase them ponies coming in and attempting to police a unfastened internet site with their hacked definitions of what's "dirt" and what isn't - and consequently, they're all having to start new money owed by means of fact absolutely everyone it relatively is against them is probably reporting each and every post they post, hence they're probably being suspended at a great severe value. Oddly sufficient, they could't police all of Y! solutions and that they seem soaring over some particular subject rely areas. AND is you twits think of you may cover in the back of a computer screen and THREATEN human beings you're regrettably mistaken. I comprehend the 1st modification of the US shape - what approximately you Troll Patrol? i % freedom to write down what i %. i do no longer troll, i do no longer %. fights, i do no longer threaten human beings - so i'm no longer in violation of something. How ya like them apples Troll Patrol?

Katie is going to answer you so I won't even bother. Once you ask a question that is critical of y! staff she will 'appear' to set you straight. She is supposedly the Production Manager's Assistant or something like that but that's just a front. In actuality she is the Public Relations Manager and she's going to get you! Boo! Ps How did that old song go..One bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch!

Yes I agree with you. There should be a disclaimer when you post a question stating what is acceptable and what is not. The same goes answering questions for people that post stupid answers for points like "I don't know" or "who cares?". The few bad apples are multiplying quickly and yes something needs to be done. It sucks when I spend more time reporting people than answering questions.

No matter what you do, there are always going to be those bad apples. I think they are doing an okay job. There are what? 10 million questions and not nearly that many answer staff. That is just a guess there. They may actually have 10 million answer staff. Where they put them let alone the potty problems.... that is anyones guess. :)

They DO miss quite a bit of 'bad apples' and in the process, they throw out a few good apples by mistake! I see questions and answers with overt cursing and objectionable content, and they stay up. I answer the question "Interesting questions for a first date?" with "Spit or swallow?" - a completely innocent phrase unless you apply a perverted mind to it - and I get 'violated' on it.

By the way...I was talking about watermelon seeds.

    Thanks for the introduction...

We actually have lots of people working around the clock to answer questions, emails, look at abuse reports, and be on the site looking for abuse. It is the equivalent of a multi-prong approach for customer care. We take all abuse reports seriously and take the time to look at them individually. This insures that the violations you receive have gotten our full attention. We are always looking for ways to improve our moderation and community management in order to make Yahoo! Answers that much better for all of you who use it. Thank you for your concern. If you have any more questions, comments, or concerns you can contact us to discuss it.

    Hope this helps!
