My daughter wants to name her baby girl a boy's name. What can I do to suggest something else?

Update:

I'm very supportive of her and I know she will have the ultimate decision. The name she's chosen is Jaydin Danae. It's kinda pretty, but it is listed as a boy's name and I don't want the baby to get teased as she gets older. Thanks for all your suggestions!

It would help if you told everyone the name your daughter wants to name her baby girl. But, at the end of the day it is her choice and you should support her with your love and respect by honoring her by NOT saying anything.

And I bet you will love that baby girl of hers even if she named it Rumpelstiltskin.

    what's the name??

  • 2 decades ago

Jaydin is a very cute name, I think of it as a girl's name before a boy's name, and I guess I do because I have a girlfriend that has that name.

This is a very huge growing trend...and one I do not particularly care for LOL.

Suggest other names. Or see if you can help her find names that are girl names similar to the boy name she likes. Or even turn the boy name that she likes into a more girly sounding one.

Ask her what she would name a boy if she ever has one if she is taking the boys name for the girl.

Whatever happens whether she keeps the name she wants or does decide to change it know that you will love the baby no matter what! Be supportive even if you express your opinion.

I like it, it's nice. I have known of a woman of the same name. Jaydin is beautiful, and unique, don't let it bother you to much. Just surround your daughter with love and support.

Actually, I love that name. Jaydin was one I considered for my liitle girl. We named her Kylee Jo though. If I ever have another girl I will probably name her jaydin.

why don't you let her be the mom??

she's old enough to be a mom and she's having the baby, so why not be there when she asks for your help instead of trying to tell her what to do from the get-go??

i'm not trying to be harsh, but it's her kid, and if she likes the name, well, then there's no real harm in that.

i'm 23wks right now, with my little guy, but before we knew it was a boy i was going to name the baby Logan if it was a girl. there are many names, now, that fit the "androgynous" category. they are very popular, so the her daughter probably won't be alone with girls who have "boy" names.

There are alot of names that can be used for either gender. You can't really do much about the name she chooses as the baby is hers, just accept it and love the baby. There are worse things in life to squabble over.

jaydin sounds like a girls name...and I don't see alot of 5th graders carrying around baby name books...so I think she'll be alright.

Thats very common these days, you can make suggestions but you must respect her decision.

If you really dont like the name you can always give her a special nickname from Grandma.

Its better for a girl to have a boy's name than a boy to have a girl's name.
