You really did spell it right when you used 2 "s".
The day was once known for its celebration of the "Christ Mass". That was shortened to Christmas. Just like we shorten many words ( SCUBA, USA, PC, and POTUS - President of the United States) X-Mas was shortened by substituting the Greek letter Chi (which looks like an X).
Americans are not usually familiar with the way Greek letters are made, and someone protested. No disrespect was ever intended.
But let's start a grass roots effort and really get back to the original....Christ Mass. Not only does that put the name of Christ back...it also says that this is a day to come with the shepherds and Magi and worship the Word of God made flesh.

Its funny- when we as a nation face a catastrophe and turn towards God. Then when we fill safe again, how quickly we debate the relevancy of God/Christ. This Xmas debate was mentioned in a book that puts it into a unique and interesting perspective. I believe that XChristmas should stay and "Happy Holidays" for those that prefer it. Oh the book "The true meaning of your birthday" off of Amazons web site. ISBN is 0-9772369-0-0.....Let's keep the faith.

in case you learn historical Greek, the "X" (chi) represents Christ. XP = Chi Ro = between the earliest symbols of Christ. Sorry in case you're insulted, yet various the recent testomony replace into written in Greek. regrettably, many folk such as you basically think of that it rather is "X"ing out Christ. yet possibly you draw the incorrect end. EDIT: Dude, first i'm not an atheist (How do you be attentive to that i'm not and the distinct human beings who spoke back at the instant are not Christian? Why is all and sundry who isn't a Christian seen an atheist?). 2d, I practice this subject rely, so if that makes me a "arrogant psychological" so be it. yet call calling is the final hotel for somebody who would not rather have an argument. And FYI - Jesus wasn't born on December 25. He maximum probable wasn't even born contained in the wintertime. So why did early Christians go with a pagan holiday to rejoice his "birthday"? Or is that query just to "arrogant" and "psychological" for you? Yep - examine equals nonsense. we ought to continually rather get rid of those "e book smarts", except, of course, the e book is the Bible.

Because a lot of people don't really care about the real meaning of Christmas, which of course is Christ. They are just interested in the gifts and don't really care to pay respect to the Christ Child.

It may be the main point of Christmas to YOU but not everyone is like YOU.
I love that time of year and celebrate it in the old tradition (Winter Solstice). Most everything you think is Christmas tradition came from Pagan traditions. The church decided only to make December 25 Christmas to try to push out and over shadow the Pagan traditions.

They are too lazy to write the word Christmas, but X is also the Greek symbol for Christ.

The story that I heard was that many years ago there were some people who tried to start a movement to stamp out the name of Christ,so they would put an "x" in His names place.
Well, the movement died out,but the xmas stuck as a shortcut

I use xmas because I don't believe in christmas or christ. I don't celebrate it either though

Because a lot of non Christians also celebrate our holidays except they don't believe in Jesus so they use it as an excuse to just buy gifts.
