I was curious is there any differnce with plants and flowers purchased at Wal-Mart as to Home Depot?

I was just curious on the difference of quality. I would imagine that a flower is a flower and nothing else. Is there any specific things about purchasing from a low end store (Wal-Mart, Target) v.s. like Lowes, Home Depot or local nursery.

No difference in any of the box stores. However I must warn you DO NOT buy any Hostas from any of these places unless you know your plants.

Most of the locations nation wide have been selling diseased plants for the past couple of years. A few locations do hire people who do have experience and will not allow bad plants to be displayed, however this is the exception.

If you are just buying some cheap annuals, go for it. If you are planing to do a nice flower bed, spend the couple of extra dollars and go to a good nursery. Not only will you get a better plant, but they can be a wealth of information too.

It dependes on the store. Many Wal-Mart and Home Depot take poor care of their plants. If you buy them quickly after they are delivered from the truck ok, but if they have been at the store several weeks, they may not be as healthy as most nurseries.

    Nurseries often have more variety.

But Home Depot and Walmart are cheaper.

Walmart and home depot usually have a lot of the same plants from the same nurseries...they aren't bad plants if you can get them the same day they are shipped but most of the time they die back and/or are just not as healthy as when they come in... if your in GA, AL, or NC check out Pike Family Nurseries... they usually have high quality plants at affordable prices...

Many times it is better and more economical to go to a nursery. This is their primary product so they take better care of the plants. You can find nice plants at Walmart and Home-Depot. Just be cautious. Be sure there are no signs of disease or neglect. I have purchased plants from all of the places you mentioned. The bottom line is take good care of it once you take it home.

No difference in the plants, just cheaper at Walmart, but thats because the clerk at Walmart gets paid half of what the person at Home Depot does. Boycott Walmart.

I was told by a woman who used to work at a higher end nusery that Home Depot gets their flowers from the same places they did. The brand to look for is Hampshire (or something simlar with an H).

Walmart is know for its cheapness.

Go for the local nursery, it might be more expensive, but chances are that the plants you buy there will be of higher quality. The staff is probably better too.

The cost is significantly greater at Home Depot.
