Why can't people just enjoy a good movie like "The DaVinci Code" without making it a big religious issue?
I saw the movie tonight. Very Good! Followed the book very well. Yet, some people have to protest it calling it sacreligious. It is just stupid that people Christian or not, have to be offended by a novel that simply proposes very interesting ideas. Someone must have liked it, it was #1 on the bestsellers list for over a year, and is still in the top 20 bestsellers, several years after it was released. You can see as much violence and controversy on your television every day of the week. Get real protestors!
Many thanks to MB for his quote of Dan Browns. It is really sad how few people can read something and yet, retain something else in their mind. It is even worse how many people condemn a movie based on a novel they have never read. Secondhand knowledge of any subject is the worst kind.

safire_seas, maybe you should buy the book and read it.
The beginning of the DaVinci Code does NOT claim that
all the historical events and religious theories are fact.
If I may be so bold as to do a bit of reprinting w/o
dan's permission, it says:
"All descriptions of artwork, architecture, documents,
and secret rituals in this novel are accurate."
Thanks to ignorance, the rumor you spread is feeding
the negative hype and genaral controversy about the
book and movie.
Do yourself a favor: read the book on your own
and make your own conclusion instead of relying
on other's to fill your brain with rubbish.
You'll have a much happier life!

It is always difficult to get all of a book into a 2-3 hour movie. Most of the important parts of the book will be there. Seeing the locations from the book would be interesting for those readers who do not have a chance to take the "Davinci Code" tours that are being offered. It has so many teasers on the entertainment programmes that people who have not read the book may be drawn in to the movie just to see if it is as good as they hear about.

At the beginning of this book, the author (Dan Brown) states that all the historical events and religious theories that are stated in the book are fact. However, Christians such as myself do not believe that Jesus had a wife (Mary Magdalene)or that Constantine, a Roman Emperor, changed the character of Jesus from what the Bible originally claimed him to be. Allegedly, Constantine changed the image of Jesus into the Messiah, the Savior, just to make him seem magical and spiritual. This goes against what the Christians believe, that every word of the Bible is true. At the same time, I think Christians are reacting against this controversy in the wrong way. Simply calling a movie evil and sacreligious doesn't solve anything: it just annoys people and confirms their beliefs that Christians are narrow-minded. Instead, it is better to explain how this movie spreads beliefs that are not true.

I'm a Christian. I'm not offended.
Its a fictional Story, based on what personally don't see as fact.
I don't know why people keep saying " Do you believe in the Di Vinci Code?".(not you)
I think people should so some research. Read Holy Blood Holy Grail. Look into the Dead Sea Scrolls, read the Bible and make their own decisions. People should stop looking at the Movie as Factual evidence. Christians should pray about it if it really bothers them.
I've done my research, and I do find the whole Dead sea scroll topic interesting, but not fact. Personally , I keep hearing that the movie is boring. But I'm probably going to see it anyway. I have the book, I havent gotten around to reading it.

Because Christianity is a religion that thrives on persecution. They have to create this "attack on Christianity" idea to try to strengthen themselves, because they are losing their appeal everywhere around the world except America. The Da Vinci Code may be a work of fiction, but the popularity of the book shows people's growing fascination with "heretical" ideas. Thus Christian churches are concerned about it.

hear hear!! good for you!! i am soooo glad to see a question that isn't negative about the film...
i haven't read the book yet, but i do intend to...i have just seen the film and i thought it was briliant. purely because it was a mystery that was solved at the end..just like most films and programmes of the same genre. the fact that it did have a happy ending told me that it was a work of fiction which introduced some interesting theories - yes, i agree with you. fantastic film,Tom Hanks was wonderful, as was the French actor (can't remember his name - did Leon), Ian McKellen and the lovely lady who played Sophie Neveu.

For the same reason people protested when a comic of Mohammad appeared in some newspapers. The difference is, I seriously doubt there will be pillaging, fires, explosions, and generally chaotic mobs in the USA as a result of this movie.
In short, people protest because they can.

Because the world is full of people that are closed-minded. It's a work of fiction for petes sake. Reminds me of all the uproar caused by The Last Temptation of Christ which I thought was an excellent movie.

Because some people take the people very literally. So much so, that anything which can be viewed as demeaning to God's image (even if its fiction) must be done away with.

people can't see it as a work of fiction.
i loved it...
although there were a couple of things i picked up that they left out or changed... bit dissapointing
but it followed the book very close.
it is good to see a movie honour the book like that.
