How will they do the criminal background checks when some nations will not allow access to that information?

Really what if the other country decides to not allow us that info? What if they lie? Just to get rid of the problem? How are these so called background checks going to be confirmed?

Exactly! I figure if the country has a person who committed murder or drug or gang crimes, why would they tell the US about it on enquiry with a background check? They will be glad to be rid of the problem person from their society.

VERY good question! I'm actually impressed!

A possible (free-market) answer is to charge an entrance fee sufficient to do a background check, that may include a polygraph test, finger printing, and blood tests for known contagious diseases, and some kind of a bond to cover possible damage (if they end up on welfare, or commit a crime). Other than that, if you have a job and can demonstrate that you're not likely to cause some big problems (like move here and consume lots of taxpayer money without paying much taxes, or start blowing up buildings, or spread your HIV infection among all your sex partners), you should be able to come here and work and live. We could require them to "check in" on a periodic basis, to allow for a more informed analysis of the person and their behavior, like probation. We should also do a proactive check on whether their identification is stolen or reported stolen, either by them or anyone else.

As soon as we get away from this kind of neutral "gatekeeper" role for government, and start trying to manage the outcome of different parts of the labor market for the benefit of the American economy, we'll have something no better than the current system, and it will be a net loss for everyone. How's that for an answer?

Most countries have a formal and well developed system for this. It's routine and easy to do. Those countries that don't, we should not allow any immigration from at all. All those places are filled to the brim with insane radicals.

Here is what we should do with immigration. Put a hard cap of 100,000 a year on it (down from our current 1,500,000 a year combined legal and illegal immigration. This is still far more than most countries allow for immigration. We'd still be number one in allowing immigrants to come here (should give an idea of the scope of the problem).

    Absolutely no welfare.

Must pass a test. Specifically, this test should be in english and should be some measure of IQ and/or education. Those with advanced education should be fast tracked toward citizenship. Those who are uneducated but skilled are on the normal route. Anyone who is stupid, uneducated and can't speak english is not allowed in. The point here is you must be able to immediately integrate as a valuable, functioning member of society. They are here to add to the value of our country. If they can't or won't, they don't belong here.

Citizenship should be conditional. If they get caught with drugs, do any sort of crime, show any evidence of radical beliefs, they get stripped of their citizenship and deported. This is no more than what every other country on the planet does, especially Mexico.

Finally, absolutely no muslims. Islam is an evil totalitarian idealogy. All muslims are 100% devoted to taking over the world using extreme violence and depravity. They live for jihad and ONLY jihad. The only purpose they have for immigrating is to use it as a weapon of war. To say they don't belong here is an understatement. One needs only to look at the mass violence, rapes, murders, torture, mayhem and attempted overthrow of governments going on all over Europe. People in places like France are frightened....and rightly so. These people are nazis. And they plan genocide in every country they go to. How about we say no that.

I wonder why, if we have such intelligent people here in America we keep coming up with the most hare-brained ideas?? What the hell good is a background check.... why is it that we think all other nations are stupid? If there is a scheme to do harm to USA, believe me, they will send someone who has no background problems... He'll just come over here like a regular vacation visit, party it up, and then on the last night of his "big vacation" he'll go out with a BANG!! A VERY BIG BANG!!! 40 lbs of C-4 strapped around his waist, while sitting in the Houston Astrodome with 50,000 people sitting around him...

I agree with Daisy. These countries will lie if they want to just to get rid of undesirables.
