VPN not working?

I have a VPN problem (obviously).

(cisco VPN client)

i can connect and authenticate with no problems,

but i can not communicate with anything on the VPN.

I've tried all the "usual" troubleshooting things

check subnetting

check firewalls

check route tables

et cetera

i've been watching packets for the past few hours

i've more or less come down to it being a problem with windows.

any ideas?

currently i'm reading http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk583/tk372/techno...

Update:

cliffinutah: done and done. like i said, i've taken care of the "basics"

it's something non-obvious

Update 2:

already figured out the problem. thanks for the *broad* answers.

turns out the firewall was blocking it on a subnetting issue (didn't like that i had multiple "lan" setups)

If you've done these things, it may be a problem on the VPN concentrator on the other end, or with a device (like a switch) that this device connects to. Talk to the network admin and describe what is happening. Get them to check connectivity on the other side of the device.

Have you tried doing an ipconfig /all from your PCs command line (while the VPN is active)? Make sure you're getting a valid IP address from the remote side. If you are, I'd look for routing problems. Can anyone else access the network with VPN?

I would recommend posting this question at http://www.experts-exchange.com/ .. there are much more specialised computer experts who can answer your question. there simply aren't enough experts here to answer your q, or be dedicated to solve it here yet, unless someone else answers your question for you, especially if you have done all the usual troubleshooting.

I highly recommend making use of VPNPower in order to unblock web-sites. I have been using them since four years. http://www.vpnpower.net/
