Do you think that brick houses are better than houses with siding?

Also, do you think that you should buy a house that has everything that you want. Or to buy ahouse that doesn't need major fixing that you can add stuff to, such as a pool?

    First, brick is always a better idea if you can afford it. Your heating and cooling bills will likely be less and most people find the look more appealing, thus leading to a higher resale value. It also requires less maintenance.

    Secondly, if you buy a house with less of the features you want with the plan of adding them on yourself, it usually means less money, but not always. Run the numbers and see what the house will cost after you add your other features. I would say to go with the cheaper one if everything else is equal.

    Well. Of course, when the Big Bad Wolf comes huffing and Puffing along, a brick house is definitely where you want to be. Plus, they have a nice classic look that never loses its appeal and stays marketable even when styles and trends change/come/go.

    Nowadays, though, it is hard to find a 100% brick house, as any roof line which varies from completely rectangular will put siding along that portion of the roof for load-bearing reasons, but the combination of brick and siding can also be very attractive.

    Brick houses can be more energy conservative and efficient, too. So I think my vote is for Brick. The only non-brick house I have owned was made of stained cedar and was in the foothills outside Denver so it fit its environment.

    I have done your second question both ways and I have gotta go with the second choice. Fixing up a house is a BEAR! Unless money is very tight and you need to get the most house for it, and are very handy and have a lot of free time to do it yourself, it is so much better to get a house where you can live in it immediately. I have even put in a pool and hated the mess and the delays. Lord! I hate waiting for and dealing with contractors. So our last house, we bought with the pool already there. For the last year, it has been Mai Tais by the pool, while hubby grills the steaks and brats!!! Ahhhh!

    So--that's how I cast my votes.

    Brick or Siding depends on location and taste. There are some parts of the country where brick is not practical...like places that have earthquakes. Brick (unless it's been built in the last 15 years or been made earthquake safe ) doesn't do well in earthquakes. Other places it's fine and maybe there are issues with houses with siding. If neither is an issue for you, choose what you like.

    As for the fixing vs everything you want. . . it depends on the situation. If you have lots of money you can buy a house with everything you need. If you like to fix things and work with contractors you could buy a fixer-up and go for it. If you know what your doing your house will likely gain value more quickly. Good luck!

    I think brick houses are more expensive and less maintenance than siding houses. Siding has to be cleaned once a year (pressure washed), but brick doesn't necessarily (unless you just want to).

    For question #2 - it's probably better to buy a house that doesn't need major "fixing" and add the other things as you can afford them. If you buy it all in one - you could overextend your budget because the mortgage payment comes due every month - like it or not.

    Hmm brick, siding...they both blow down just the same during tornadoes and such. I do prefer brick myself just for maitenance purposes (siding will either need paiting or will start cracking in dry weather). I personally prefer to buy a home that needs some fixing up that way you can get a whole lot more house for your money and do what you want to it to make it your own, at least that is what I did.

    I find that a brick house can be more energy efficient along with having a very classic uniform appearance. So I like them. As far as buying a house that has everything if you get a good deal on the house you could use the money you saved to add the things you wanted.

    I personally love brick houses. You are probably better off buying a house with a pool, because I have read that you only get back 50-60% of the money of putting in a pool.

    I think it bepends on the location of the house. I would definitely choose brick b/c it's stronger(hurricane state). But go with what YOU like. I would go for a house that doesn't need fixing that things can be added to so you can add the things YOU want to your taste. Hope that helps! Have a great day!

    Well, all-brick homes are certainly easier to maintain. You don't have to paint brick. Siding has to be painted every few years.

    I would make sure the house is structurally sound and has no major electrical or plumbing problems.

    Watch out for builder repos though, and have them checked out COMPLETELY! They can present an attractive financial picture, but can have TONS of unseen problems. Sometimes they are just "thrown together". Building companies that are going under are trying to complete their projects as quickly and as cheaply as possible so they can get out from under the obligation.

    The general rule is buy the cheapest house in the best neighborhood. We got our house for $70,000 (11 years ago) in a neighborhood that was running about $85,000. We did some work on it and now have a 120,000 value. Not the best in the neighborhood but right up there. Spent less then my neighbors and got the same value when we were done.
