How many inches at a time can you raise a house to level it?

I was told when raising a house with jacks, that you should only raise it so many inches a day or week etc. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, what is the amount it should be raised at one time. There are also sags on the wood floors, but no cracks or broken beams. Any suggestion on how to fix them.

I agree with the person above, hire someone if you are not sure. We rent an old farmhouse and the kitchen and bathroom floors were sinking...foundation isn't good either. Anyway, our landlord came out and jacked up the floor and now the whole north side of the house is pulling away from the walls, floors, etc. We are seriously looking to move before the walls fall on someone. And, the floors are still messed up. The tiles on the north wall of the bathroom have came off the wall and upstairs in one of the bedrooms where the walls and ceiling come together, there is a huge crack.

Slow is best! Take your time, unless you are trying to sell it fast!

    Good Luck.
