Royal anthem "God Save The Queen"
History of "God Save The Queen"
Though usually attributed to Arne, there is good ground for believing it is really the work of Henry Carey, a singer and composer. It is said to have been written sometime between 1736 and 1740, but was first heard in public at a dinner in 1740 to celebrate the taking of Portobello by Admiral Vernon. Carey sang it as his own composition. The oldest copy is in "Harmonia Anglicana" of 1743 to which Carey was one of the chief contributors.
Several similar earlier airs exist in a manuscript of 1619 attributed to Dr. John Bull, an organist in the Chapel Royal during the reign of James I. In the same book is a song called "God Save the King", but the music is different.
The Scots claim it is based on an old carol of 1611 called "Remember O thou man" or "Franklyn is fled away" of 1669. It has also been traced to Purcell in 1696.
As a phrase from the Coverdale Bible of 1535, "God Save the King" was used as a naval watchword to which the countersign was "Long to reign over us".
For a long time the song was used as an expression of personal loyalty to the king and in translation it was used in Prussia, Denmark, and in Russia until 1833 when Czar Nicholas commissioned a new version. The tune has also been used in Sweden, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and the United States.
GOD SAVE THE QUEEN is sung in the United Kingdom as a matter of tradition. It has never been proclaimed the national anthem by an Act of Parliament or a Royal Proclamation.

My theory: we don't get to choose when we die (unless we commit suicide, and the majority of society doesn't feel that's okay). While I was a volunteer @ a nursing home I saw a 95 y/o woman crying in her room. I went in and asked her why. She replied that she was tired of living and wanted to go home. Her children were all dead, her grandchildren never visited her. Then she asked me why God wouldn't take her home. I had no answer. Personally I don't see NOT dying in the plane crash as having been shown mercy. Life in this world is not easy. What if I was alive but sustained an injury which would effect me for the rest of my days? I don't call that merciful. I consider that something I have to face as a lesson of some sort. As for saving an atheist: it could be this atheist still has something to learn from life, just as a theist. One thing I've learned in life is that the "why" questions regarding life and people rarely have really definitive answers. Mostly it's easier to just accept what is than to ask why.

It's the name of the National Anthem of the UK. It is a german tune which is used for the anthems of other countries and the words were originally written in praise of a german king who ruled Great Britain in the 18th century. It was called God Save the King in those days.
Usually only the first part is sung as the second part is anti-scottish.

It was originally "God, shave the Queen" but during translation a comma and an "h" were accidentally dropped.

The normal everyday person who has to work hard for a pitiful salary, whilst she collects thousands, if not millions in interest and decent peoples wages month upon month, year upon year.
And yes, we are expected to save her.
As far as I'm concerned, she can afford to save herself.
