Do I need a driver to make my USB ports work?
I am useing 2 devices that use the USB port and they both work fine because i needed a driver to install them (They are a DSL modem and a printer) but when i try to connect my camra, joystick or MP3 player it doesnot recognise anythig as even being connected but the camara and MP3 show that they are connected to the computer. I dont have drivers for these devices, where can i get the drivers if i need them??

If you are using Windows XP SP2, most of the devices are recognised and suitable drivers are installed automatically, or you are prompted to confirm their drivers installations.
However, you can go for the manufacturer's website (You will find the manufac. and the model no. on the surface of your device or in its documentation papers) to download the appropriate driver by selecting the model or go to one of those drivers' download sites such as www.driverguide.com. Some even has a tool to detect your devices and find the necessary drivers for them.

Your camera and MP3 player are shown as connected because they probably have their settings on "storage device" (or something similar). In other words, they show up connected on your computer because your computer thinks they are storage devices like a hard drive or cd-rom and not a camera or MP3 player. You should check the settings in each device (camera/player) and be sure they are not set to "storage device" when connected to computer. If you need the drivers for your devices, just type in the manufacturer, model, and the word drivers in a search engine (yahoo, google, etc.) and most often than not, you'll find the company's web site with the drivers waiting for you. Unfortunately, you do need the drivers for those devices or you won't be able to use any of them.

When you bought those devices, they should've comed with a CD with the drivers. If not, try searching the manufacture's website. Most of those websites have drivers available for download.

sometimes it is better to use the manufacturer's own drivers coz some of the features will be lost if you use what windows provides. e.g. graphics cards, cameras, mp3 players and such devices

it's better to try to attach another USB driver cause webcam or MP3player doesn't match other parts ehich be attached by USB. this way is safer and easier than anytime install the driver
when you by a webcam or others, there is a CD by it or you can search " USB DRIVER " in sites like downloa.com or google.com to download it
