Tomb of the Unknown Soldier?

What committee is in charge of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and who are on it? I want to know because there are TWO major cracks in the tomb and someone has offered FREE OF CHARGE to the government, marble, including engraving and transportation to Washington, DC to replace it. This has been going on for FIVE YEARS? Why is the government looking a gift horse in the mouth??

Try the Quartermaster General in Washington.

It is not the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, it is the Tomb of the Unknowns.

Where did you get the navy is the head and other services provide guards.

The Army was given the task of guarding the Tomb in 1926. From 1921 to 1925 it was not patrolled, but in 1925 civilian guards were placed at the Tomb during the day.

The reason for placing guards was to protect the national honor and investment represented by the Tomb. Extensive landscaping took place that added dignified approaches to the site. The threat of vandals, litterbugs, or even careless disrespect would be countered by a military patrol of the tomb. Various Army units that were stationed at posts in the area were used on a rotating basis.

The present unit that secures the Tomb began its patrol in 1948. That, of course, is The Old Guard, the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, U.S. ARMY.

No other service has EVER guarded the Tomb!

I know that there is 540 members as of this year. The Navy is the head of the Unknown Soldier, with personnel that is tested and qualified through their own program from the War department. The guarding is 24/7 and the ritual of changing of the guard is done 3 times a day. The grave site is within Arlington Memorial Cemetery, the War department is also in charge of burials, and maintenance. All of the branches of the service stand guard at the site.

If its too expensive for the government, one of our 3rd world friends could donate it to them.

You probably aren't going to the "right" people. I wouldn't know who that would be either. Sorry.
