"police" dog just signifies it has been trained to be a cop-dog, not just the breed of german shepherd. It will know commands and should be very well trained. I would call a police dept or contact the people who gave him to you for specifics.

German Shepherd is the breed and police dog is the job your dog was trained to do. In WW 2 German Shepherds were deemed the best dogs to serve alonside people. They are the most common breed used to help police officers. I've done some research about dogs serving our country. Try looking on the web for more specific info about your dog

GERMAN SHEPARD'S, AND GERMAN POLICE DOG? I LIVE IN U.S.A . MY DOG IS 3 AND WAS ONCE A POLICE DOG TOO.

One is train to do one thing and the other to defend an officer, tracks drugs, help people etc. Even if the German Shepard's are train to Gide. The police training is better. So the police dog is the better choice. If you find out were this dog was train and for what you can use that train in your advantage.

German Shepherds are the same as German Police dogs. I would be very careful if your dog was once a police dog. They are typically trained to listen to just one owner and that can be tragic in certain instances.

There are two similar breeds used by the police that I'm aware of, the German Shepherd and the Belgian Malinois. You could probably do a google search to differentiate between breeds specifically.

I don't believe there is any difference. The german sheppard is the dog which was developed in Germany (I believe in the early 1900's) to be used as a police dog. They are one in the same.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/IpVEu

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.
