It's a misprint. I'd get the expanded version of the Bible for the actual verse.

agree with most of the posters = especially that to understand this Chapter and verse you need to read a bit more.

From the King James Version and the International Version - here 23-29.

If you read it all you will then understand what it means.

With God All Things Are Possible

23 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

25 When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?”

26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

27 Then Peter answered and said to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?”

28 So Jesus said to them, “Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife[k] or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. 30 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.

the 'inherit eternal life" part is because they believe God is the only one. thats why theyre leaving to do things. because they believe in god. its not their good deeds that get them in. when he says anyone who leaves.....will recieve a hundred times he means that if for example a person feels called to be a missionary and leaves their family and friends to follow God, in heaven (or earth. depends . no one can predict or control God.) they will they will recieve a hundred times good things with their family. sort of as a reward for giving up so much for the love of God. but dont trust a bunch of strangers, talk to your pastor about this and pray for understanding.

this does not mean that you have to physically leave family members in order to serve God. This verse is saying that when you make a decision to accept Christ into your life, everyone may not be in agreement with you. Your children may think you are crazy your husband may threaten to leave you, your family may think you have lost it, if they are not believers. If that is the case, God is saying to go forward in the faith anyhow. Go to church even if they think you are stupid. pray every night even when your family says it's not going to work. study your bible even when everything seems to be going wrong. keep the faith and in the end, and a lot of times even before the end, you shall receive your reward. anyone who truly follows Christ will receive blessing after blessing. eventually, your family might come around and follow you, but if they do not, no you do not have to move, just keep following Christ, keep praying, keep believing, keep going to church, keep studying and god will bless you. he will show you what to do, and he will tell you what to say.

"And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life."

When we give everything up and do as god requests, then God blesses us. We could be working with the homeless, on the mission field, at a local church, or witnessing to our friends and loved ones, though it may cost us our jobs, friends, family, or even our life.

This passage is referring to the 12 apostles. They were just saying how they've given up everything for him. Verse 29 is where he's telling them that, although they have given up so much, they will get back far more, plus eternal life for following him.

I believe this is speaking in regards to missionaries; in different gospels of the Bible, Disciples left all they had to follow Christ. Also nowdays, many missionaries are apart from their families for years; another example would be someone leaving a spouse because the spouse refuses to allow them to follow Christ. No, we in general don't have to physically leave our families, unless they are pulling us away from Christ; then it might be wise, just so you do not lose your faith. But usually, this only refers to people who's calling, (or who's purpose, who's mission) requires them to be away from family, such as anybody in ministry (Missionaries, singers, etc) who are either seperated for a long time from loved ones, or in some cases, forever. Hope this helps!

The scripture is talking about making a choice to follow the doctrine of Christ versus remaining in status quo w/your family (if they are not believers of Christ) or with the world. Christ did not come to separate us from one another, he came to unite us and sometimes in the uniting we must be willing to serve Him completely. My family would be o.k. with drinking or smoking or having sex outside of marriage but because of my faith and my willingnes to follow Christ these are things that I have chosen not to do in my life - am I separated from family? Yes and No. Yes because I don't do those things and they do and No because I love them and still see them and I want the best for them. Christ gave a command to love one another and this is known as the greatest commandment of all.

All that it means is that we should be willing to put God first. We should live our lives according to His purposes for us, not according to what our friends, family, neighbors, community might demand of us instead. We should be willing to follow God's will, not our own, or someone else's. In a nutshell, put God first, and you will not be disappointed--even if you feel you must give up something you love, or want to do to follow God's purposes, you will be largely rewarded for your sacrifice.

It means that you have to put Jesus and God in front of people, even ur family. Look at Exodus 32. I'm not sayin that u should kill ur family, but being consecrated (set apart to) God, u have to pay prices. But God will not forget u, he will reward u in Heaven, where "moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal." (matt. 6:20)

This is a case where you should read verse 28 and verse 30 and not just take scripture out of context.
