The problem is not with the glass itself, but with a sudden change in temperature.
The part of the glass that is in contact with the heated food will expand, while the top that has no contact with it will remain unchanged. This will cause a difference in the tension in the glass walls which will break them.
Tempered glass will tend to resist this much better.
However, always follow the manufacturer's indications. And when in doubt, just don't do it.

yep, however, depending on the temp of the microwave, u might chance busting the glass........oh yeah, no metal, altho that does cause neat little bolts of lightning in the wave LOL

pyrex glass yeah...
check the bottom of the glass thingy...
if you see wavy lines with a line over them, it means the glass is not microwave safe...
